What a month we've just had!! We had over 100 new members join the Chamber, had a great luncheon, an awesome lunch-n-learn and then kicked off April with a really fun Texas Hold'Em tournament!

In this brief letter I want to tell you about two really incredible opportunities. One could be huge savings for you. The other is a chance for you to have a bigger voice in what is going on and what your Chamber does!
First I want to tell you about some exciting news from one of our Chamber members - Office Depot!

Office Depot has enhanced our small business savings program to provide even more discounts in-store and online, plus added fantastic new benefits. More than just deals (that now extend to almost every item!), you’ll also get access to Office Depot’s new technology services, local Business Pros and more. If you currently use or have used our Office Depot program, nothing changes. You’ll still be able to access the same great pricing and deals that you’re used to. If you are not signed up for our Office Depot Small Business Savings Program, administered by Excelerate America, visit http://bit.ly/Rowlett_OD to complete your registration.
If you purchase office supplies or any of the many other things that Office Depot sells you'll want to participate in this program. I'll have another email out later this week with more info on the substantial savings but you don't have to wait - click on the link or picture above and check it out.
Now, for that chance to be more involved and make a difference. How you ask? By joining one of the many committees the Board of Directors has set up.

I hate longs emails but to save you from having to find the information on the Chamber website I'm going to include the list of committees and a description of each. If you're interested in one or more just hit reply and let me know! I (and the Committee chairs) would love to have you involved!

The goal of the Operations Committee is to oversee internal operational including technology, facilities, benchmarking, human resources and governance. Their functions also include assisting with strategic planning to develop a long-range plan for the Rowlett Chamber of Commerce.

Ready to join the chamber? Join the already 400+ small to large business, as well as self-employed members to network, advertise, and grow your business. Member benefits include professional development, sponsorship opportunities to support chamber events while promoting your business, networking through mixers and social events, business promotion through ribbon-cuttings to sponsorships, and an array of other leadership and community volunteer opportunities. Grow your business; grow personally and professionally as you support the chamber that supports you. Supporting members and continually looking for new members are the Ambassadors. Welcoming new business members at ribbon-cuttings and reaching out to members for the strongest chamber connection, Ambassadors are the key connection for the chamber.

Fiscally focused and dedicated to ensuring sound management and stability, the volunteers on this committee monitor actual revenue and expenses, provide financial updates and financial reports and work with staff to operate the chamber efficiently following an established budget. Members of the finance committee typically include the chamber staff and the Treasurer although the committee always welcomes the ideas and input of chamber members.

Events & Programs
Never a dull moment…your Rowlett Chamber of Commerce creates and coordinates special events and fundraising opportunities to support the budget year-round. Events vary from the annual banquet to honor and recognize members and chamber volunteers for their efforts to the annual Taste & Trade Expo to promote the businesses and services of the chamber, to special focused fundraisers like “Freedom 5K on Main” or “Sunset Santa 5K.” The chamber staff and volunteers on this committee are committed to the chamber’s mission to provide networking, advertising, and educational events that meet the needs of our members and add value to their membership. Check our Calendar of Events weekly for new and existing events throughout the year.

Marketing & Communications
Read all about us! Tasked with the responsibility and oversight of several chamber communication tools, the volunteers on this active committee meet once a month. From suggesting copy content, highlights, and chamber news for the monthly newsletter, The Correspondent, to offering mini educational series for members, the communication committee stays busy additionally supporting the chamber staff with other communicative resources such as the website, e-blasts and social media. If you have writing or public relations talents and want to be more involved please let us know.

Governmental Affairs
Watchful eyes and minds in tune with issues relevant to Rowlett businesses is the aim of this proactive committee. Volunteers pay attention to current issues that affect businesses and inform members about local, state and national legislative issues that affect or involve both businesses and our local community. Specifically, the committee creates a list of legislative priorities and keeps members apprised of critical issues. During elections, the committee hosts forums, giving members and the general public an opportunity to receive information about local candidates seeking office. The in-tuned volunteers also act as liaisons to members on city, county and state and federal affairs.

Economic Development
The Economic Development Committee will liaison with the City of Rowlett Economic Development, helps coordinate CEO Roundtables/Luncheons, attracts new businesses to Rowlett and helps to retain businesses in Rowlett. Recommends programs to enhance state and local industrial and community development and advocates for a sound infrastructure throughout Rowlett and the North Texas Region.
That's all I've got this time! I hope you have a wonderful week!

Warm regards,

Michael Gallops, President/CEO
