I want to inform you that Ms. Lorra Webb from Mercy High School will be directing our Drama Program this year. Ms. Webb is the assistant director for Mercy's Fall and Spring productions and has also worked with summer theater in Old Saybrook. Ms. Webb will be assisted at St. John Paul II by Ms. Emilia Lynch and Mrs. Jill Hernandez. They look forward to meeting with our JP2 thespians in October. Our drama production this year will take place at Mercy High School on May 11th and 12th.
I also need to inform you that Mrs. Amanda Hearn will begin teaching Language Arts beginning this Monday, October 2nd. Mrs. Hearn has taught Middle School for three years in Delaware and moved to Connecticut with her family last Spring. I want to welcome Mrs. Hearn to the St. John Paul II faculty. I also want to thank Mrs. Pat Holmes who taught this subject along with her busy schedule as our resource/intervention specialist. This will enable Mrs. Holmes to focus solely on resource room services. She will be assisted by Mrs. Nicole Milardo as our paraprofessional.
I interviewed two candidates this week for the Physical Education Position and one for the open aftercare program. Hopefully, we will have these positions filled for next week.
Mrs. Melanie Bruckner returned to her classroom this week and the 4th grade is in good hands.
I would like to remind you of two fundraisers that are coming up sponsored by the HSA. First is the Lyman Orchard Pie sale which will be conducted from October 2nd to October 16th. Pies will be delivered on November 14th. It is a great way to get those Thanksgiving pies and support our school. The second fundraiser is our 2017 Auction "Puttin' on the Ritz". This will be held on October 14th at the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Hall. Tickets are $40 each and ticket orders are due by Tuesday, October 10th. Only 200 tickets are available and tickets are going quickly. Please send your ticket orders into the JP2 office quickly and support this great event.
October is also the Month of the Rosary. We will be reciting a decade of the Rosary each morning at morning prayer and praying for world peace.
We are beginning an outreach program with the parishes of the Middletown deanery. Beginning in October, each month we will attend Mass as a school at one of the parishes.
On Sunday, October 22nd, as a school community, all of the staff and students will attend the 8:30 AM Mass at St. Peter's Church, 30 St. Peter Lane in Higganum in formal uniform.
We want to express our appreciation to all the churches that send our school monthly monetary support.
May God continue to bless you and your families.
