HOUSE BILL 146 PASSES HOUSE WITH STRONG SUPPORT
Firefighters from across the state gathered at the State Capitol on Tuesday in honor of the 45th annual Firefighter Recognition Day.  In addition to the traditional celebration activities, House Speaker David Ralston, Representative Micah Gravley and other legislators marked the day by bringing House Bill 146, the firefighter cancer benefit legislation, to the House floor for a vote.  The legislation received overwhelming support and passed 171 - 1.  It now heads to the Senate where it will it must also move through the committee process before the full Senate can vote on it.

Thanks to all of the individuals and organizations that have worked diligently to get this legislation to the point that it is today including the Georgia State Firefighters Association, the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs, the Georgia Firefighters Cancer Coalition, the Professional Firefighters of Georgia, the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) and the Georgia Municipal Association.

Please take the time to contact your representatives to thank them for their support of HB 146.  It's not too late to start talking to your senators about this legislation as well!  Watch for more updates as the bill continues to move.
