As we celebrate families at HelpHOPELive this holiday season, we can't forget the impact some furry family members make.
Meet Kayla Olivier and her dog, Bella. Bella has been a part of Kayla's family since they rescued her at 8 weeks old. When Kayla was 15, she was diagnosed with systemic lupus, transverse myelitis and Guillain-Barre syndrome--diseases that deteriorated her central nervous system and left her unable to walk. In their time of need, Kayla and her family looked to Bella for help, committing to train her as a service animal to help Kayla do things like open doors, pick up dropped items and reach the phone.
To offset the tremendous cost of training Bellaas well as the innumerable expenses Kayla's conditions carry, her family leaned on the support of their community and HelpHOPELive. Thanks to generous donors like you, Kayla and Bella are gearing up for college next fall, ready to live and thrive as independently as possible.
"Kayla always takes everything in stride. She tells everyone she is the same person she always was and knows that this path was chosen for her for a reason." - Jennifer Olivier, Kayla's mom
