GACCoM Looks Back on Exciting Times!
In the past few weeks, GACCoM has  experienced the opposite of the proverbial "Sommerloch" - the period when politics slow down over the summer break. Instead, a number of our events caught the attention of the highest political levels and we were excited about many great opportunities to leverage the importance of German-American business in our region. Please enjoy this little review we have prepared for you and browse our picture gallery online.

Chicago Hamburg Business Forum

The new mayor of the City of Chicago, extended a warm welcome to the delegation from Chicago's Sister City Hamburg: "With its thriving and environmentally sustainable economy Hamburg is a global leader and I look forward to working with you to spur economic development and foster innovation in both cities," Rahm Emanuel said. This was the first international business delegation Emanuel personally welcomed since taking office in May.

T
he Chicago Hamburg Business Forum "Green Technology: Cooperation Perspectives for the Midwest and Northern Germany" brought over 120 business and policy experts from both sides of the Atlantic to downtown Chicago.

The forum was created to explore opportunities for growth and employment at the crossroads of business and sustainability. Simone Pohl, President and CEO of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest in Chicago, emphasized: "The ultimate goal of our Sister City partnership is to benefit Chicago's and Hamburg's citizens. As the official representative of German business in the United States, we look to further foster the already successful Sister City partnership on the economic level."

Wisconsin Chapter 10 Year Anniversary

GACCoM's Wisconsin Chapter was honored to have Governor Scott Walker attend the festivities

GACCoM and its Chapter were delighted that Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker accepted the invitation to address over 70 distinguished guests at the Grohmann Museum in Milwaukee

"It is a pleasure to congratulate the Wisconsin Chapter of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest on its 10 year anniversary and to meet with the German American business community.  The significant ties between Germany and Wisconsin, from ancestry to sister city and state relationships, and especially with respect to trade and investment, reflect the importance of building on these relationships to further strengthen investment and job creation", Walker said.

Thuringia's Business and Political Leadership Visits the Midwest

From "Autoland Thringen" to the motor city - Thuringia's

Minister-President Lieberknecht, Daniel M. Akerson, Chairman and CEO of General Motors, and Economics Minister Mathias Machnig ( www.thueringen.de)

Minister-President, Christine Lieberknecht, visited Detroit amongst other Midwest locations accompanied by a large business delegation including the state's Economics Minister, Mathias Machnig. GACCoM's task was to connect the visitors to the local German and American business community. We organized networking opportunities at an eMobility and Advanced Materials Workshop in Detroit, a VIP networking dinner, as well as one-on-one partnering meetings for the German delegation companies with US peers.

The Minister-President's busy schedule also included a meeting with Daniel Akerson Chairmann and CEO of General Motors, in which they discussed a variety of topics ranging from green mobility and alternative fuel concepts. Akerson praised the work of Opel's plant in Eisennach which he called the best of all GM facilities according the internal rankings.

Besides plenty of business, Lieberknecht also promoted Thuringia as a travel location, especially as part of the "Lutherland" where major sites of the Lutheran Reformation can be visited.

During the course of the trip, Lieberknecht was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, by the Wartburg College in Waverly, IA.
