Help us help our community!

The need for blood is critical and we know our friends can help!  On September 3rd we are partnering with the American Red Cross to host our very first (hope to be 'annual') Blood Drive! Stop in between 10am-3pm to donate or visit redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code 'GA Humane' to make an appointment.  And to show our appreciation we will offer every donor a coupon for one "fee-waived" pet adoption!

Plus, don't forget to register for the Annual Dash for Dogs 5K & Strutt your Mutt Dog Walk on September 21st!  Register today by clicking here to run or walk!
"Peanut Butter"  it's the little things that matter

Have you seen our pleas for items such as "canned dog food" or "peanut butter" which pop up on our Facebook feed? For those of you who answer those requests - THANK YOU!  We are very blessed - truly. Without our amazing community and friends who built this Shelter, we would still be in Auburn in an inefficient dilapidated building trying to do the best with what we have. Every little donation we receive allows us to focus on and work diligently to improve the lives of those pets that need us.

Thankfully all of our efforts and hard work over the past 6 years have paid off - not only are we saving more lives than ever before; granting organizations recognize these efforts and help us save even more animals by giving us the tools necessary to do so. Thanks to the generosity of the ASPCA, the Petco Foundation, the Laura J. Niles Foundation and PetSmart Charities, we have two beautiful Sprinters vans that help save lives throughout Maine and beyond.

You see every day we go up against the same challenge.... balancing a lean budget while saving animal lives. Since we literally do not know what will walk through our door on a daily basis, it is nearly impossible to budget accordingly. We remain attentive to staffing and general operating expenses daily and are very thankful for the hundreds of volunteers who assist us in day-to-day operations. Did you know we very rarely have to purchase pet food? We have so much donated to us that we are able to use those funds to care for our residents and offer life-saving medical care if necessary!

For all of this - thank you! Every day our friends and our community not only surprise us but remind us that what we do really does make a difference. Simply by donating peanut butter!

Outdoor Cat Enclosure.... coming soon!
It's just not fair!  Why do the dogs get to go outside to romp and play in the sun and the cats are stuck indoors all day?

Well, the cats have spoken and plans are underway to remedy that - as they see it - design flaw.  The Board of Directors has approved the building of an outdoor cat enclosure so our feline residents can also spend some time outdoors doing outdoor cat things - you know, like lay in the sun and watch the birds fly by.  Stay tuned for more details!
