Dear Friends,

We hope you are enjoying your summer and your week. Please check out what's happening with us and our partners:

GGC 5th Annual Summer BBQ! Sunday August 19th 12-4pm, parking lot behind the store. For those of you who have attended in the past, you know this is a great way to spend a summer Sunday! This year we will have Gunthorp Farms on site smoking a whole pasture-raised pig, succulent grilled portobello mushrooms from River Valley Ranch, beers from Two Brothers Brewery, locally brewed sodas, chips and fruit. And we are so thrilled to welcome back The Congregation for their third show at our BBQ. They are such a talented band and we love them so much. When we found out that they opened for Wilco this summer and played Sheffield Garden Walk that maybe they'd be too cool for us but happily they said that they love the BBQ and are coming back to play for their fans and for our wonderful customers! Suggested donation to cover costs will be $10 at the gate but that gets you all the food, drinks (must prove you are 21 to drink the beer), music and fun for a full afternoon! So make sure it's on your calendar for next weekend.

Harvest Moon Farms needs your help!As most of you know, the drought and extreme heat we have been experiencing has been difficult and at some points devastating to our farmers and growers in our region. For Harvest Moon Farms, a fairly young farm in Wisconsin, the drought has caused huge crop failure which has made it borderline impossible to keep up with the financial responsibilities of a farm. I know that a lot of folks struggle out there with finances but none of us rely on the weather and rain like farmers and that is a great variable for success or failure. They are reaching out to all of us, their community, to help them purchase an irrigation device as well as fund their tomato harvest (if they can get the manpower to get them picked, this will be a huge turning point for their farm). Please watch this short video and consider making a small contribution to someone who feeds so many. http://www.harvestmoon-farms.com/droughtaid2012.php

Harvest Moon Farms is also the August Philanthropy of the Month!Green Grocer chooses a different organization monthly to receive a donation of a percentage of our profits. Harvest Moon has been chosen for August so know that anytime you shop with us, or have your friends/family shop with us, you are also supporting this little farm directly. We are all in this journey together and I think we need to step up when someone needs a helping hand.

As always, we thank our customers, our staff, our vendors and everyone else who rallies around our little store and our community of growers and farmers. Without each other, we have nothing. Together, we have the power to move mountains (and to eat well whilst we move them!). Happy Friday everyone!

Much love, peace and happiness to every single one of you,

Cassie, Gary and the GGC team.
