The many rewards of volunteerism were shared by a talented group of panelists at a recent professional development luncheon. This month, I am asking for some of you to take that to heart as you make plans for 2018.
If you are not sure where to begin, I have an answer for you! It’s not too early to be thinking about getting involved with our chapter next year. Several positions on the GKC-PRSA board of directors will be open and I’d like to invite you to step up to the plate for one of the many roles.
GKC-PRSA is an all-volunteer organization and our strength comes from the time and talents of local practitioners and other volunteers. We plan and manage the chapter's operations and events throughout the year. The biggest event, of course, is the PRISM gala and we would love to have not only a chairperson, but also several committee members. One need not be a member to be on the committee.
There are plenty of good reasons to use board participation as part of giving back to the community. You can build your professional network, add some skills to your background, or even try out new ideas for the chapter. Serving on the board also counts toward accreditation maintenance points for those who hold APR designations.
I can personally say that I’ve enjoyed volunteering as marketing chair for a local theatre group for several years. Now it’s time to turn that time toward our chapter as next year's president, and I hope you will join me.
