MAY you get the most out of your PRSA Membership!
|
Thank you all for your membership and dedication to the Greater Kansas City Chapter of PRSA! It is our goal to provide continued professional development, leadership and networking opportunities to PR professionals in all levels and sectors here in KC.
So far in 2018, we have hosted our annual PRSSA Summit with attendees representing five area universities, kicked off planning for the 2018 PRISM Awards and hosted seven professional development events, such as this week's "Pitch Tank and Media Relations Round Table" with local editorial gatekeepers and reporters.
In addition to great chapter opportunities, your PRSA membership also includes access to a national network of more than 30,000 professionals, print and online educational resources, webinars, conferences, certificate programs and APR Accreditation. Please check out the
2018 PRSA Learning Catalog
for a schedule of upcoming opportunities.
In the last 10 years as a PRSSA and PRSA member, I have gained friendships, mentors, jobs, clients and continued my PR education alongside a community of people I admire and who challenge me daily. I hope you'll take advantage of the many benefits of your membership, and if there's anything I can do to help, I hope you'll reach out.
Thank you & see you at the next event!

As marketers, we’re steeped in the best practices of developing and distributing content. But if we’re all following the same rules, how can your message stand out? It’s a not easy, so we developed a 10-point checklist to grade our ideas against before we set out to create a new content series. The funny thing is, we’re starting to use it for paid ad campaigns as well.
It’s not an easy set of questions to pass. In fact, most of our original ideas flunk it. BUT, from there we have a better idea of how to push them to a better spot.
Speaker:
Justin Watkins with Native Digital
Founder and Creative Strategist Justin Watkins has a background in interaction design, web development, creative direction and content creation. Over the past 15 years, he has worked on clients such as National Geographic, MGM Resorts, Sixt Rental Car, Lufthansa Airlines, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Visit KC, H&R Block, and Anheuser-Busch. Prior to starting Native Digital, Justin served as Vice President of Creative for MMGY Global.
A creative at heart, Justin explores concepts from every angle, iterating on an idea until it’s fully refined. As he puts it, “The process is easily more rewarding than the final product for me.”

From the President:
Happy May! As we finally break out of what was likely the coolest April in history, it’s nice to embrace the fresh, warm weather. It’s also time to be thinking of the immediate future and the distant future. Last week, we announced the deadlines for submitting PRISM entries. We know you have some great works you’ve been doing this past year and will no doubt receive the much deserve recognition to go with it.
For the distant future, we are all looking forward to the gala in September and it will no doubt be spectacular. However, I must also point out that next year’s future of PRISM awards and the chapter itself are not quite so certain. We are already operating on a thinly seated board as it is and without a new crop of volunteers, the chapter is in danger of losing its sustainability. Most crucial is the role for my successor which has still not been filled. The president-elect chair is needed asap in order to prepare for next year. The person that steps up for this seat should have plenty of PR experience, a desire for leadership and a strong belief in our industry and our area’s talent. Not interested in leadership but want to know more about other opportunities?
