April 11, 2016                                                                       GLOW Update
A NEW Message from
            Girls on the GLOW!

Hello Everyone!

**Before I send along our weekly updates, I'd like to remind all parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to SIGN IN/SIGN OUT your GLOW Girl at the beginning and end of practice each week.  This is for the safety of your GLOW Girl, and we appreciate your support.**

This past Saturday, our girls learned a lot about confidence, self-acceptance, and learning to embrace their unique qualities, even their flaws.  The idea behind this lesson was to replace the need to achieve perfection with a willingness to take risks and grow.  Coincidentally, I came across a TED Talk video Saturday afternoon that supports the ideas behind the lesson.   CLICK HERE to check it out.

For our next lesson, "Safe in the Sun," the girls will discuss some of their favorite activities to do on a warm, sunny day, and they will learn how to stay hydrated and cool as well as learn some important tips to avoid the harmful effects of the sun.  We hope you will support our efforts by applying sunscreen before sending your girls to GLOW with us (if the weather ever decides to behave!)

GLOW With Mom UPDATE!  Due to the forecasted rain and already muddy ground conditions, today's GLOW With Mom Boot Camp is going to be RESCHEDULED for Monday, May 2nd at 6:30PM.  We just don't want to take any chances of anyone getting hurt.  We suggest taking this opportunity to go for a bike ride at Chestnut Branch Park or William Wilt Park if the rain clears by the evening.  Rita's water ice is always a fun option, too!

Starting this week, we encourage all of our GLOW Girls to start logging in their "miles" so they can say "I Ran A Marathon!"  Keep reading to learn all about the details of this exciting opportunity to see your GLOW Girl earn her way to a 26.2 milestone through her hard work and determination.

The Mullica Hill Women's Triathlon Club is holding a logo design contest for their upcoming 5K in June.  See "Local Races" for details on the race and the contest!

DIRECTIONS TO J. Mason Tomlin (JMT) SCHOOL

JMT School is located at 393 Main Street, Mantua, NJ 08051.  From Route 45N, turn right at traffic light onto Mantua Blvd (at Post Office), and then turn right again at next traffic light onto Main Street.  Continue straight for .7 miles.  School is on the left.

PARKING

Please use the parking lot to the right when facing the school.  There is NO PARKING in the circular driveway or on Main Street by order of the Mantua Township Police Department.

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL

Practices begin promptly at 10:30AM and end promptly at 11:45AM.  When you arrive at JMT, drive to the back of the parking lot.  Enter the APR using the doors in the rear of the building.  PLEASE SIGN IN/SIGN OUT YOUR DAUGHTER WHEN DROPPING HER OFF AND PICKING HER UP.  If someone other than you is taking your daughter home, please alert the coach upon your arrival.  These rules are for the safety of your child.

SWAG DISTRIBUTION

T-shirts, journals and water bottles will be distributed again on Saturday for anyone who couldn't attend our first practice.

WHAT TO WEAR

Probably the most talked about topic will be what to wear!  The girls should come dressed to match the weather but also ready to run in their Girls on the GLOW t-shirts, sweatpants or running shorts, proper running shoes, and a hat or visor.  A light jacket or sweatshirt is recommended on cooler days.  If your daughter wants to bedazzle her t-shirt and personalize it with her name, that is highly encouraged!  Just be sure to supervise carefully as a replacement t-shirt will cost $15.  Be sure to apply sunblock before arriving!

WHAT TO BRING/NOT BRING

Girls should bring water to drink, their journals, and their smiles!  Things to not bring: cell phones, iPods and, of course, the drama!

ASPIRING ATHLETES

If your daughter is interested in training for a 5K, she can take part in our Aspiring Athletes group.  These girls should be able to run at least 1 mile at any pace without stopping and have the determination it will take to accomplish their goal.  This group will train by running to Chestnut Branch Park and back if we have sufficient volunteers; otherwise, they will remain on the school grounds.  A permission slip will be required to participate in the Chestnut Branch runs.  You can CLICK HERE to download and print the form.  Please bring it to the first practice.

"I Ran A Marathon"

Your daughter will receive a certificate once she has logged in 26.2 "miles" of activity!  How does it work?  Every 20 minutes of physical activity counts as 1 mile.  Examples of physical activity include:  soccer games/practice, dance class, bike riding, tennis, etc.  One hour of soccer practice would count as 3 miles!  Our GLOW practices offer 40 minutes of activity so that would count as 2 miles.  If you're GLOW Girl is running, she should write down the actual number of miles she runs.  Once she has logged in 26.2 miles, please email me at dina@mhwtc.com.  Your daughter will be presented with a certificate that says "I RAN A MARATHON" at her next practice!
