News: Mayor Barrett will share his vision for Milwaukee housing. The GMAR will unveil a first-time homebuyer initiative and announce a donation to support Housing Resources, Inc. in their work of preparing area residents for successful homeownership.

Beginning on August 28,1967, and continuing for more than 200 days, Milwaukee's NAACP Youth Council and Commandos staged open housing marches to protest housing discrimination and demand an open housing ordinance. A number of march participants plan to attend.

HOMELESS VETERANS NEED OUR HELP
GMAR's Veteran's Committee has been working closely with the Milwaukee Homeless Veteran's Initiative. Most recently, we organized a very successful coat drive.
The Homeless Veterans Initiative's food pantry and organization needs the following items:
Food pantry needs:
- Ramen noodles
- Saltine crackers
- Canned fruit
- Canned chicken
- Knorr package pasta
- Canned chili w/beans or without
- Pasta sauce
- Stable milk pork & beans
Furniture needs:
- Microwaves
- End tables
- Irons
- Dressers/night stands
- Smaller sofas/loveseats
- Dish racks
You can drop smaller items at the GMAR office or bring them to the 6300 W. National Ave. in West Allis. If more convenient, you can drop items at committee chairman, Dave Delahunt's home: 1648 W. Bradford Drive Mequon, WI 53092
In addition, The Homeless Veteran's Initiative can pick up donations in their trucks. You can call them at: 414/257-4111.

Each GMAR member may bring up to 10 boxes or bags to be shredded. Your cardboard boxes and plastic bags are emptied as you arrive and returned to you. Come hungry as we will be grilling hotdogs!
