Improving
the Village and Futue use of the WAC Site - Important
Questions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At its monthly meeting this past Monday, Bruce Webb, the
pastor of the First Baptist Church "FBC" (Grogan's Mill Road and
Sawdust) suggested a three point program for improving the
Village:
- Members of the FBC partner with the GMVA in restoring and
preserving Grogan's Mill.
- That we partner to ask the Township to remodel the pedestrian
bridge over Grogan's Mill Road, creating a landmark consistent with
the character of The Woodlands. He had specific suggestions and an
artist's rendering, which will be posted on our website and
Facebook pages.
- That we partner to ask the Township to move the Sawmill Park to
the former site of the Woodlands Athletic Center "WAC" (located off
of South Millbend behind the Grogan's Mill Village
Center) and create one of the premier parks in The
Woodlands. The FBC would like to buy the existing Sawmill park
site, which borders their church property.
These proposals gained some immediacy as the
DSC approved concept plans for a three-story
apartment complex on
the WAC site at their meeting this week. The Township has also allocated $500,000
in remodeling and upgrading Sawmill Park with plans to begin the
work in 2010. These funds could possibly be re-directed toward the
proposed "new" Sawmill Park at the WAC site.
The GMVA wants to know what your opinions are on the
three point program listed above and the proposed new
apartments. We would like to know if you are supportive
of the suggested proposals and/or interested in
working to implement them. Please contact GMVA
President, Deborah Sargeant at dcsbusiness@sbcglobal.net or comment on our
Facebook page for all to see.
probably go to both the pool and sports fields. If you have ideas
