The Woodlands has almost a half million trees. Tens of thousands have died or will over the next few years, due to the severe drought last summer. About ten thousand trees have been removed by the Township and the County already. The Township has budgeted almost two million dollars for this year to remove and replace trees.
Now that most trees are in bud you can determine if they have died. If the trees have died, you will want to remove them as soon as possible since it becomes more expensive to do so as the tree deteriorates. You might try getting a group of neighbors together to get a better price on tree removal. There is a detailed report on the FMVA web site detailing what is happening with the trees in our community.
|Help Make Your Community Look Its Best
On Saturday, March 31 the annual community Earthday Greenup cleanup will take place. Pre-registration is available online at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/greenup
through March 23. A limited number of trash grabbers will be available for loan to groups that pre-register. Walk-up registration is welcome on March 31 at the 8:30 a.m. at Tamarac Park on North Millbend. All participants will receive gloves, bags, instructions and an assigned pick-up area at check-in. It is a great way to teach your children about community involvement and participation.
The community is invited to the post pick-up party at Northshore Park to enjoy food, music and activities from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pick-up participants will receive free pizza, snacks and soft drinks along with an event T-shirt. The Buck Yeager Band, local talent gone national, will provide free entertainment while the event premiers the Brown Bag Boutique.
|Construction has Begun at Sawmill Park
The Township has begun the renovation of Sawmill Park, starting with trees that have been cleared for the new parking lot and basketball court. The recent rains have delayed work, but the project should be finished by the pool opening on Memorial Day, May 28th.
A dedication of the renewed park will be held in June and the GMVA will be planning to hold some events there. It will be a beautiful facility that you can enjoy and it will enhance the community.
|GMVA Plans to Donate Money to Schools and Scholarships

The GMVA will also be offering a one-thousand dollar scholarship to a village resident. Details for the scholarship will be posted soon on the Website and Facebook page, and announced in a future newsletter.
