February Community Election
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2012 February Election for The Woodlands Residential Design Review Committees (RDRC) and Village Associations.  The election will be held on February 18.
Voting will be at the Township Offices at 2801 Technology Forest Blvd.
Election Day: Saturday, February 18, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Candidates for Precinct Commissioner at Monday's GMVA Meeting
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Candidates for Precinct Commissioner, Speight and Noack, will speak and be available for questions at the February 20th GMVA Meeting.

Many residents are concerned about traffic, and of particular interest is what is happening on South Millbend and Sawdust Roads where traffic backs up in all directions during rush hour.  The GMVA has invited candidates for Precinct Commissioner, the person who controls the road situation, to speak about what they will do for Grogan's Mill.  If you are interested, plan on attending the meeting to ask your questions.

The meeting begins at 6:30pm at The Woodlands Township Service Center
2801 Technology Forest Blvd. The Woodlands, TX 77381.

Governance Forums - Register NOW
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Woodlands Township continues its study into future governance.  As you may know, Regional Participation Agreements (RPA) were entered into with the cities of Houston and Conroe to prevent the annexation of The Woodlands and allowed residents to determine their own future governance structure within the next 50 years. In 2007, residents overwhelmingly approved the change in governmental structure to become The Woodlands Township, however, the RPAs provide the opportunity to change the current governance structure, including the option to incorporate as a municipality after May 29, 2014.
The Township's Board of Directors has been working through a process to proactively examine whether the current governance structure is best suited for the community now and into the future or whether changes need to be made. Over the course of the last several months, the project team has been preparing a "gap analysis", an evaluation of the effectiveness of existing service delivery and the potential future need for expanded and/or new services and governing tools as the community evolves. Additionally, a preliminary financial analysis has been completed so residents and stakeholders can better understand the financial implications of municipal incorporation.
The Board of Directors invites you to review the results of this analysis and to provide feedback on the future governance of The Woodlands by attending one of the following Community Forums:
Thursday, March 29, 2012
7 to 9 p.m.
The John Cooper School
Saturday, March 31, 2012
9 to 11 a.m.
The Woodlands Emergency Training Center
Registration continues through noon on March 28. To ensure we save a seat for you at one of these events, please register today by visiting the Township's website (www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov) or by contacting Kim Cogburn at 281-210-3800.
Earth Day GreenUP
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Earth Day GreenUP is the first of three  How Green is your Village? opportunities for 2012.
Last year, Grogan's Mill  had 33 residents who participated.  Our challenge for 2012 is to increase our Village participation over last year. As a benchmark, 137 residents =1% of your Village population.
The Woodlands GREEN will allocate a portion of $4000 pledged from sponsorship funds to Grogan's Mill Village if we:
  meet and/or exceed  the participation goal for the March 31 Earth Day GreenUp Event AND
  provide at least 2 Village volunteers to help with check-in at  Tamarac Park.
Register on-line at their website and check out  p. 24  in the February Woodlands Magazine. If you wish to volunteer with check-in at the park please note in special requests section of the pick-up form.
Dan Phillips - Beyond the Box
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dan Phillips builds wildly creative, unconventional houses in Huntsville
for single parents, artists, and low-income families who otherwise
wouldn't be able to own a home. He uses only apprentice labor and
teaches marketable skills to anyone with a work ethic who is willing to
swing a hammer. By keeping labor costs low and using recycled,
donated, and salvaged building supplies, Phillips creates homes that are
truly affordable: $20,000 to $50,000 by his definition.
Phillips knows his small-scale housing ventures in Huntsville are not
enough to save the world. But they're an important start, a model for
others who want to build or remodel in a sustainable, affordable way, too.
Phillips is an engaging, entertaining, enthusiastic speaker who has been
featured internationally, from The New York Times and O magazine to the
Discovery Channel and HGTV.
He will share his perspectives on building "beyond the box" in The Woodlands
on February 21, 2012.
