Annual Splash Day was a Success

Spash Day at Sawmill was an afternoon of fun! The GMVA sponsored a free pool day at Sawmill Park last Sunday.  If you were hungry, we had hot dogs, chips and snow cones. If you wanted games and fun, we had that too!  For more pictures from the event, please go to our Facebook page.

New GMVA Board Member
The GMVA recently had two board members step down, so we have been seeking replacements.  Thomas Chumley came to our last meeting and gave his credentials and reasons for wanting to be a member.  He was elelcted and we look forward to working with him.  He and his family live on Box Oak.  Previously, he was active politically in South Carolina and more recently with Steve Toth.

Township Budget
The Woodlands Township Directors Mike Bass and John McMullen attended the GMVA monthly meeting this past Monday.  They updated those present on the new budget.
The Township has approved a budget that will keep your taxes at the current level.  By reducing the tax rate they have offset the significant increase in the appraised value of homes over the past couple of years.  Included in the budget are some expanded items like maintaining the small neighborhood cup-de-sacs, which was a request made by the GMVA.  We thank all of you that contacted the Township Directors expressing your views on the cul-de-sac maintenance.  It made a difference.

SJRA Update on Road Construction and Water Supply
The new water supply from Lake Conroe is two-thirds complete and should be finished by next May.  Water from the lake, mixed on a 50/50 basis with existing ground water, will start being used next June. Every effort is being made to make the water as similar as possible to the water we currently use, the water from the lake will be very much like bottled water and it will be a little softer than the existing ground water.

Construction on Research Forest is complete and the barriers are being removed starting today. Construction on Grogan's Mill has been slowed by the recent rain and a shortage of concrete in Montgomery County due to the large amount of building activity.  Grogan's Mill between South Millbend and Sawmill will probably be finished in mid-September, south of Sawmill will be a couple of weeks later.  On South Millbend, east of Grogan's Mill a line is being put in that will not affect road traffic.

Landscape restoration will be done when the weather cools off a bit by the Township, this will bring work areas back to their pre-construction condition.

The new system will hold 17 million gallons of water.  It needs to be pressure tested and be flushed before it can be used.  Starting in October flushing of the system will occur and there may be some large water runoffs near what look like black fire hydrants.

For more detailed information visit the SJRA web site.
