GMVA Needs One New Board Member
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of our dedicated Board members, Christie Collins, is moving from Grogan's Mill and therefore had to resign from the Board.  We sincerely thank her for the time she has spent volunteering to better our Village.  During her time on the Board, Christi served our community well as our GMVA school liaison.
If you are interested in becoming a board member please reply to this newsletter or email president@gmva.org along with information on your qualifications and why you would like to participate.
Road Construction Updates
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Grogan's Mill between Woodlands Parkway and South Millbend: The San Jacinto River Authority says it will open the third week in April, though it looks more like the end of April to our observers.
  • Woodlands Parkway to Research Forest:  SJRA says it will open at the end of May.  Crews are working 24x7 on stretches of it.
  • Westbound Woodlands Parkway is now scheduled to open fully in June.  Guard rails will be installed on the eastbound side.
May Yard of the Month Winner
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Craig and Terrie Lee moved to West High Oaks in The Woodlands five years ago when their sons graduated from college. The Lees love their home because it reminds them of the storybook cottages in Carmel, CA. The yard was in poor condition when they moved in so they started from scratch. Terrie enjoys flowers and working in the yard. She wants her yard to be a happy place for all who visit.
GMVA Planning Retreat
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At its retreat on April 6th, the GMVA budgeted $27,000 for the coming year.  Major items  are $4,000 for schools, $3,000 for both scholarships and community events, $1,000 for Interfaith, $1,000 for a Veterans Memorial. President Dana Denton also presented a list of the Associations 2013 accomplishments which can be found on the GMVA website.

Grogan's Mill Farmer's Market
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On May 10th, the Grogan's Mill Farmer's Market will open the market to craft vendors as well as our usual mix of produce, prepared food, and personal health vendors.  This will be a fun opportunity to find a perfect and unique gift for your mother at the same time as your weekly farmer's market shopping.
If you are interested in being a craft vendor on May 10th, the cost is $25 for booth space and an application is available on our website.
If you don't already receive it,
sign-up for our weekly e-blast that gives listings of the vendors participating each Saturday, as well as the produce and other wares you can expect to find.  Look for more details other special events in our upcoming e-blasts and at the Grogan's Mill Farmer's Market Facebook page
Plans to Build New Community Adjacent to Grogan's Mill
Sustainability? and Founder's Day Proposed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the March 20th, 2014 Township Board Meeting there was a fairly long discussion about using the word 'sustainability' in a proclamation regarding Earth Day.  The Board eventually voted not to use the term with Mike Bass and Bruce Tough dissenting, Jeff Long was not present.  The video of that part of the Board meeting can be viewed  at  http://woodlandstx.swagit.com/play/03202014-519

 In response, Director Mike Bass has proposed a Founder's Day, honoring George Mitchell and his vision of sustainability, on the 40th anniversary of The Woodlands.  Read his proposal to The Township Board...

At the April GMVA meeting. The GMVA Board voted to support the concept of sustainability as well as the use of the word sustainability and support Mike Bass's proposal for sustainability and Founders Day. This support will be communicated to the Township Board through a letter.
