Scholarships Awarded to Two Grogan's Mill Students
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two $1,000 scholarships were awarded on May 21 to two Grogan's Mill students attending College Park High School.  GMVA Board members Sara Bissig and Christie Collins made the presentation at the annual awards ceremony on behalf of the GMVA.
Jenna Beam has lived in our village 10 years and she hopes to go to UT Austin or Texas A&M. She intends to obtain her Masters degree in Biochemistry. She is one of 4 children, her parents are both nurses. She is graduating Magna Cum Laude, top 7% and is a member of National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, National English Honor Society & Mu Alpha Theta. Jenna has been on the Reveliers dance team for 4 consecutive years and first chair cellist for 2 years. She also works 40 hrs a week at Potbelly Sandwich shop & babysits. Jenna is an amazing, motivated, intelligent and hard working young lady!
Jack Sagehorn has lived in our village 14 years and he plans to attend Texas A&M. He was accepted to Baylor too but chooses A&M due to the difference in tuition.  He has one brother.  His passion is golf, and he is a varsity team member at CPHS. He has been admitted into Texas A&M's school of engineering and plans to specialize in Industrial Engineering.
He is very active in his church as a volunteer and an AP Honors scholar with a 4.0 GPA every semester of high school. Jack is a dedicated student and athlete who deserves our recognition and admiration.
The GMVA is Looking for More Board Members
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two GMVA board members have recently resigned because they moved or had overwhelming work commitments. If you would like to be considered as a board member we ask you to submit your name and address to our President, George Van Horn, president@gmva.org. The Board meets monthly, on the third Monday at 6:30 PM.

The GMVA provides a variety of community services to the residents, operates the Farmers Market, and participates in numerous community activities.  You can find out what we do by looking at our website and particularly at our By-laws. We would then ask you to attend our next meeting on Monday, June 17th to tell us about yourself and why you would like to be on the board.
If you Missed the Farmer's Market Surprise, Watch the Movie
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Grogan's Mill Farmer's Market staged our third Children's Day last Saturday with a balloon artist, a bouncy castle, and a demonstration on eating healthy for children and adults.  There was also a surprise at 10AM, when members of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio led a flash mob dance that included market vendors and customers.  Watch the dance on our Facebook page.
May and June Yard of the Month Winners Announced
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Yard of the Month winner for May is Lois Barry, who lives on Green Blade Lane. She has been living in this house for 27 years, growing many different plants that would tolerate the shady areas she has. Some of her favorite plants and flowers are the fern, blue plumbagos, azaleas, lantana, caladiums and roses. Lois has moss rock and flagstone walkways with crushed granite which brings out the beauty of her yard. Lois does most of the work herself but sometimes gets assistance from her son, Dave.

The Yard of the month winner for June is the Palmore family on Flowertuft. They have lived here for over 30 years.  Charles is the nature lover and gardener in the family and when he was no longer able to work in the garden, all the neighbors on Flowertuft got together to help Nora create this beautiful garden consisting of magnolias, azaleas, varigated ginger, lantana, hibiscus, and holly.  Two rabbit sculptures add to the whimsy of this lovely garden.  What a wonderful gift Nora's neighbor's gave her!  It is a gift that gives every day.
