GM Farmer's Market Tailgate Party this Saurday, the 31st
Are you ready for some Football???

Grogan's Mill Farmers' Market will host its 2nd annual tailgate party this Saturday.  Thanks to Streater-Smith Nissan of Conroe, we'll have two of their beautiful new energy efficient pick-ups on display.  We'll be serving free breakfast tacos from Taco USA and Brother's pizza from their tailgates, plus there will be a bouncy house and face painter for the kids. Every customer who wears an NFL team jersey will receive a two dollar coupon to spend at the market, limit two per family.  Bring the family to the Grogan's Mill shopping Center from 8 AM till noon on Saturday for some family (and football!) fun.

Woodlands Parkway Bridge Schedule Has Changed
Unfortunately, the schedule has been revised due to the bad weather as well as additional deficiencies and surprises the contractor has encountered that were not accounted for on the original schedule. For example, there is a section of the bridge rail that needs to be redone because the previous contractor had not placed it at the right location--this added 6 days to the opening of the westbound lane. Also, the contractor had issues with a water line that needed to be re-welded in order to pass an x-ray test--this added 8 days to the schedule.

Therefore, the project substantial completion date has been moved from April 24th to April 29th and the opening of the 3rd westbound lane has been moved from January 23rd to March 3rd.

Water-Wise Challenge
As an incentive to conserve the local water supply, The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department has invited the residents and village associations of The Woodlands to participate in the Water-Wise Village Challenge. The goal of this challenge is for residents to pledge that they will turn off the automated sprinkler system or not water the grass until April 15. The pledge is available online at the following link: http://www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/waterpledge.  Every village that has at least 50 people who sign up will received a monetary prize, if we qualify our prize will go to locals schools, as of last week we only had 29 commitments.

Turf, particularly the St. Augustine grass that most of us use,  goes dormant during winter and does not require watering during this time, so this should not affect how your home looks.

Sara Bissig, owner of Go Green Eco Taxi, has generously offered to pick up the Water-Wise sign for any Grogan's Mill resident and deliver it to their home in her eco-friendly taxi.  If you would like Sara to deliver your sign, please take the pledge and then email Sara at gogreenecotaxi@gmail.com to let her know where to deliver your sign in Grogan's Mill.

There will be elections for Village Association and RDRC boards. Elections for both Grogan's Mill boards are being contested.

Voting will take place at Township Offices located at 2801 Technology Forest Blvd. Convenience voting will begin Monday, February 16 and go through the 20th from 9 AM to 5PM.   Election day will be Saturday, February 21 from 8 AM to 6 PM.

You can find the list of candidates on The Woodlands Township website.

Notes from Recent Meeting with Commissioner Noack
Members of the GMVA board met with Commissioner Noack last week to discuss items of mutual interest regarding our community and roads.  Some things that you should be aware of:
  • Signage indicates there is only one left turn lane from northbound Grogan's Mill Road to Woodlands Parkway although road lines indicate two left turn lanes; Commissioner Noack directed staff to check on this conflicting signage/directions causing confusion.
  • Widening of Grogan's Mill south of Woodlands Parkway is not in any current five year plan, it could be in more long range plans.
  • No plans are being made for an extension of Sawmill Road over Spring Creek to the Grand Parkway
  • If the anticipated road bond issue is passed in May, most of the money will go for the widening of Rayford and Robinson roads
  • We asked for a barrier or some other way to prevent people from making U-turns at Many Pines as they come off the overpass onto Woodlands Parkway from I-45. Commissioner Noack realizes this is a problem area that congests this intersection and the overpass, especially during evening rush hour.  His staff is studying various methods to try and ease this situation.

Volunteer Recognition Town Hall Meeting
The Woodlands Township Board of Directors will hold a Board of Directors Meeting at 5 p.m. and Volunteer Recognition and Town Hall Meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015. The meetings will be held at The Woodlands Township, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard, The Woodlands, Texas 77381.

The Townhall meeting is a great way to find out about what is happening in the Woodlands. The township board explains what has happened and what the plans are for the future.
