Community Election Process Underway, Filing Until Jan. 19
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The process has begun for the 2012 February Election for The Woodlands Residential Design Review Committees (RDRC) and Village Associations.  Filing closes on January 19 for the election to be held on February 18.  There are eight open positions on the GMVA board, and only four people have filed at this time.  There are five positions for the RDRC, and only one person has filed at this time.
The GMVA gives you the opportunity to help improve your community by working on efforts that directly relate to it.  Our major project is the Farmer's Market, which we run in order to encourage business in the village center as well as raising money for our yearly philanthropic efforts such as providing funds to our schools for needed items and support to the local food pantry. There are numerous other projects in which we are involved year round.
The RDRC is the organization that is the watchdog for community standards
GMVA Contributes to Grogan's Mill Community Emergency Response Team
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At its meeting Monday night the GMVA Board voted to contribute $1,000 to the Grogan's Mill Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The CERT team consists of residents who are trained to become 'first responders' in case of an emergency.  They receive 36 hours of training in basic first aid, search and rescue, handling of hazardous materials and fires.  The money will help equip the 20 trained volunteers in Grogan's Mill to be better prepared in an emergency to provide help to the community.  Items that will be bought with this money include a chain saw, axes, pry bars,medical kits, blankets and other emergency materials.
Candidates for Precinct Commissioner Invited to Speak
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Candidates for Precinct Commissioner will be invited to speak at the February 20th Meeting about what they will do about the road situation in Grogan's Mill.
Many residents are concerned about traffic, and of particular interest is what is happening on South Millbend and Sawdust Roads where traffic backs up in all directions during rush hour.  The GMVA will be inviting candidates for Precinct Commissioner, the person who controls the road situation, to speak about what they will do for Grogan's Mill.  If you are interested, plan on attending the meeting to ask your questions.
The Woodlands Marathon Needs Your Support
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Over four thousand runners have signed up for The Woodlands Marathon on March 3rd. They have a great course and shoud have good running weather.  The one thing they are missing is 'crowd support'.  The sponsor of the race, Liberty Mutual, is holding a cheer challenge and has asked each of the villages to participate.  The village that gets the highest ratings from the 'runners' can win up to $1,000 which can then be give back to the community as gifts to our schools, scholarships or other activities.  We are asking for people to join us in supporting the race and the community.

We would be stationed near the start of the race in front of the Marriott Hotel and would have to be there by 6:30am.  We would be finished by 9am so you could have a full day.  Coffee, doughnuts and good fellowship will be provided.

If you are interested in participating please contact Deborah Sargeant.
