We split matches with the All Viet Classic with each team winning matches 2-1 against each other.   The third and deciding match is tomorrow at 8am.  The All Viet team was tenacious and smart.  They went 5-1 in league play to represent Baton Rouge.

Highlights included the debut of Jeff Bacino who picked up tennis 15 months ago; Tony Paternostro winning two third set tiebreakers.

City Park Coyote members include:  Donnie Natal, Tim Kern, Sean Harper, Tony Paternostro, Rodger Wheaton, Steve Slade, Luis Camaro, Chris Bruno, and Jeff Bacino.

A gutsy struggle all weekend on all lines came down to a 10-8 loss in the third set tiebreaker  of the last match.  There were so many strong individual efforts, everyone gave it his all.

The tri level is unique as it brings together different USTA levels that normally do not play together.  We had a good mix of players and were just a match short.
Every lost hurt and every win was exhilarating.  The State competition ramps up the fire and passion in matches played by weekend warriors.

I am proud to be a part of our team. We built a competitive esprit d 'corp where we can field a strong team (and motley crew) out of City Park.  Part of this was to create an environment where we could field teams that are as good as the City Park facility.  We did that in spades and can look forward to more teams in the future.

Club members Donna Paternostro, Ana Brown, and Janice Leaumont are in post season play. Donna is going to sectionals in Mobile, AL as her team won State at the 3.5 level.  Ana Brown is going to sectionals in Tennessee on a 4.0 team.  Both will represent Louisiana and the CPTC well.  Janice is playing in the mixed doubles State competitions in Lake Charles and Mandeville. Well done ladies.

For those other state competitions, good luck.  See you on the courts.

Congratulations to A's & Aces Lauryn Duckworth

Lauryn Duckworth, a student-athlete at Edward Hynes Charter School has won the best Louisiana essay in the Arthur Ashe Essay contest this year.  Lauryn won an all-expenses paid trip for two to the Winston-Salem Open. That's the 3rd year in a row that one of our participants won the contest.

Special thanks to the Louisiana Tennis Association and the Southern Tennis Association for supporting the contest.

Thanks to David Schumacher & Dr. Anna Monhartova for sharing these wonderful accomplishments.

Mission Statement: To Promote and Support Tennis In Our Community

The first edition of the CPTC on-line newsletter was sent out on May 8, 2012 to members of our club and to others who support and enjoy reading tennis-related news.  As of this edition, just under 300 contacts receive the bi-monthly newsletter.

In order to keep the news relative and informative (and hopefully enjoyable), I need you support by 1. sending me news and pictures to be included at 225-715-1818 or billyecrawford@gmail.com
2.  by spreading the word, telling others or by forwarding the newsletter to others who may be interested.  (The forward this email link is at the bottom of each newsletter.)

In just 15 years our club will be 100 years old.  God willing I hope our club will still be an active, friendly, and positive influence within the tennis community.

Future Club Plans

The next three club board meetings are scheduled for:

August 27
September 24
October 22

Our next event will be a women's doubles tournament.

The club has held two very successful tournaments this year; a men's doubles event and a mixed doubles event.  Both tournaments were well attended and lots of fun.
