FUSING FAITH AND SPORT TOGETHER.
A WORD FROM PAUL KOBYLARZ, GP EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Fall is my favorite time of year! Besides the change of colors and God's amazing nature at it's best, it's also SPORTS at its best! We have made it through the football drought of the winter, spring, and summer...and the NFL/NCAA football seasons are BACK! Need I say that my alma-mater (Michigan Wolverines) are ranked #2 in the AP polls?! NCAA and NBA basketball is also just around the corner, not to mention that the NHL is also in full swing! Being an ex-professional hockey player, this really excites me!
What excites me even more is the opportunity to
share God's word
to those who participate in the Community Church of Greenwood's own youth and adult sports and fitness programs at The Gathering Place. Through The GP (CCG's sports ministry venue) we are positioned to share life's purpose via the gospel, to thousands of people each year.
I have also been privileged to share outside of The GP in various venues and sports clubs, one of which is the Indy Fuel (IHL farm team of the NHL Chicago Blackhawks). Each week we discuss how God's word in the Bible can help them grow both on and off the ice, in hockey and in life.
God challenges all of us to use our experiences, gifts, and resources as a tool to share Him with others. He wants everyone to have the opportunity to hear, be shaped, and be restored by His Word. The gifts of
renewal, restoration, healing, forgiveness
(eternal life with our Creator) are gifts that God has made available to all of mankind. He (via
The Great Commission
) encourages us, out of gratefulness for what He has done for us, to make Him known to others, because "to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God"
. Jesus demonstrates that the best way we earn the right to share His message is by loving and serving those we hope to reach. May we all be so grateful for what He has done for us, that we're willing to give what He has given us away to others! "By God's grace and mighty power, I have been given the privilege of serving Him by spreading this Good News"
