NOVEMBER 2016
FUSING FAITH AND SPORT TOGETHER.
A WORD FROM PAUL KOBYLARZ, GP EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Fall is my favorite time of year!  Besides the change of colors and God's amazing nature at it's best, it's also SPORTS at its best!  We have made it through the football drought of the winter, spring, and summer...and the NFL/NCAA football seasons are BACK!  Need I say that my alma-mater (Michigan Wolverines) are ranked #2 in the AP polls?!  NCAA and NBA basketball is also just around the corner, not to mention that the NHL is also in full swing! Being an ex-professional hockey player, this really excites me!

What excites me even more is the opportunity to  share God's word  to those who participate in the Community Church of Greenwood's own youth and adult sports and fitness programs at The Gathering Place. Through The GP (CCG's sports ministry venue) we are positioned to share life's purpose via the gospel, to thousands of people each year.

I have also been privileged to share outside of The GP in various venues and sports clubs, one of which is the Indy Fuel (IHL farm team of the NHL Chicago Blackhawks). Each week we discuss how God's word in the Bible can help them grow both on and off the ice, in hockey and in life.

God challenges all of us to use our experiences, gifts, and resources as a tool to share Him with others. He wants everyone to have the opportunity to hear, be shaped, and be restored by His Word.  The gifts of  renewal, restoration, healing, forgiveness
and  salvation  (eternal life with our Creator) are gifts that God has made available to all of mankind. He (via  The Great Commission  in  Matthew 28:16-20 ) encourages us, out of gratefulness for what He has done for us, to make Him known to others, because "to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God"  John 1:12 .  Jesus demonstrates that the best way we earn the right to share His message is by loving and serving those we hope to reach.  May we all be so grateful for what He has done for us, that we're willing to give what He has given us away to others!  "By God's grace and mighty power, I have been given the privilege of serving Him by spreading this Good News"   Ephesians 3:7.

THE ARMOR OF GOD
NEW WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY AT THE GP

Priscilla Shirer, lead actress in the hit movie "War Room" is the author and teacher of our women's Bible study, The Armor of God, which launched with a dinner on Friday, October 28. Weekly study groups are now meeting at The GP with several times to choose from:  Tuesday mornings (9:30-11am), Tuesday evenings (7-8:30pm) and Wednesday mornings (11:30am-1pm).

The armor of God is a study of Ephesians 6:10-19.  Life throws many unexpected challenges our way,  and it is important that we are properly equipped to meet them head on. This passage in Ephesians gives us a biblical perspective on how to do this effectively and practically in our lives. For information about this study, or other upcoming GP studies, please contact Nicole at ngroeper@ccgonline.org
YOUTH SPORTS SPOTLIGHT
GP INTRODUCES CHARACTER AWARDS

We wrapped up another successful season of Fall Youth Sports on October 15th. A highlight this season was the addition of Character Awards handed out to our oldest divisions ages 11-14. Each coach has five character awards they may award to the most deserving players on their team. Each award reinforces the character of Christ striving to be more like him. Below are the award recipients for Fall Youth Sports 2016 and a brief description of why they deserved their award . . . . Read more

THE TOTALLY FIT LIFE
TFL SYSTEM IS CHANGING LIVES AT THE GP

Amanda Sofranko joined TFL in May and is excited about the changes in her life. We asked her about the highlights of her experience.

What brought you to TFL
Well CCG did. I have always struggled with my weight. I would always say oh I'm going to start Monday, and that never totally came! We started going to CCG. I love how they value that the body is a temple and we need to treat our body how God would treat his.   So sitting in service week after week I kinda felt sad that I had let myself get this way. I would be out of breath going up stairs . . . .  Read more
