March Newsletter
We've been tricked a few times with some sunny and warm days, but the threat of snow still lingers. One constant you can count on is a month full of great GRYP events. Lets volunteer, laugh, and network together to get through the rest of this cold season!
Volunteer with Feeding America West Michigan
Saturday, March 3
Join GRYP as we visit Feeding America West Michigan to assist in their Reclamation Department, repackaging and sorting food. About 15% of the food received by Feeding America West Michigan needs special handling, such as sorting, labeling, and repackaging, prior to its distribution to agencies across the 40 Michigan counties they serve and this is where you and GRYP comes in! Every hour of volunteering allows Feeding America West Michigan to provide 200 meals to our friends and neighbors.
Laughsketball for Laughfest
Tuesday, March 13
Grand Rapids Young Professionals is so excited to volunteer for Laughfest 2018!

Come out to the DeltaPlex for the first LaughFest Basketball Game!! GRYP members will be helping with a family friendly game of basketball where comedians take on local celebrities! There will be a chicken toss, silent auctions, mascots and some seriously special guests for attendees to enjoy.
Featured Member: Jake Heslinga

This month's Featured Member is Jake Heslinga. Jake can be seen at many GRYP events throughout the year, so make sure to keep an eye out for him and introduce yourself!

We asked Jake a few questions. See what he had to say below!
Tell us a little about yourself.
In 2016 I graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in entrepreneurship and a knack for business development. During my last two years of college I owned and operated an event production company/art collective called Tree Love Collective- we hosted nearly thirty concerts and two music festivals. You could say art and music are two things I am very passionate about.

After college I moved to Grand Rapids and while on the hunt for a career path that best suited my skills and goals I helped my friend and roommate develop his clothing and merchandise company called Kaleidoscopic Apparel.

After a few months I found myself on a career path that I found to be equally stimulating and gratifying. I had accepted a position at MassMutual here in Grand Rapids as a Financial Advisor which suited me perfectly. In this position I am able to simultaneously help others become financially successful while supporting myself financially in the process.

Why did you join GRYP?
I had heard about GRYP through a number of different sources; after a while decided I should go check it out and hopefully expand my network locally. It has proven to be a great tool for building my business as well as my social network around the Grand Rapids area.

What's your favorite event?
My favorite GRYP events are probably either the smaller new member gatherings or the bowling events. For anyone considering checking out GRYP, I would highly recommend starting with one of these types of events.

How long have you been a member?
I have been a member for about 4 months now and plan to stay a member and contribute to the group for years to come.

Mazzo has been generous enough to reserve us a private space and extend their happy hour until 7pm for our members! Come check out new staple downtown while connecting with other new members in a more intimate setting than our larger events.

Come see what GRYP is all about! What are you waiting for?
