Troop Banking Account Update
In the September Shore Essentials there was information regarding troop bank accounts. It's our intention to provide a portfolio of banks for use by troops/groups that will allow us the opportunity to provide support with your banking needs.
We've listened to you...and many established troops/groups have expressed that they have strong and supportive business relationships with financial institutions that are not included on the list of GSMISTS banks. Therefore, we've made the exception to accommodate existing troops. If your troop has an established bank account and are willing to handle banking issues on your own, you will NOT be required to switch to the list of banks we provided.
New troops/groups and Service Units with a new Director and Treasurer will still be required to use one of the GSMISTS approved banks.

Greetings!
We've had a busy September gearing up for the new Girl Scout Membership Year, and are certainly looking forward to October...we hope you are too! This past September some of our Girl Scouts from the Gerald R. Ford Middle School in Grand Rapids had a unique opportunity. These girls (22 of them) have been participating in the Kent County Prevention Coalition's Above the Influence Program, helping teens say no to drugs and alcohol, and instead, focus on achieving their dreams. Through this program the girls had the chance to make "iCreate" pieces, which were included in an ArtPrize entry - a large quilt made from all these fantastic pieces.
(GSMISTS staff member Mary pictured with the quilt). To celebrate their hard work and dedication to the Above the Influence program the girls celebrated with an Above the Influence Black and White party at Celebration Cinema on September 15 where the ArtPrize entry was unveiled! We're so proud of these girls for becoming amazing community role models and truly living out what it means to be a Girl Scout. Through this program and the work with these exceptional girls, Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore was also selected as a 2011 exemplary honoree and received the award at the Kent County Prevention Coalitions's annual meeting on September 27. Way to go girls!

| Moving & Shaking for our 100th!
The Girl Scout 100th Anniversary is just around the corner and we're gearing up to celebrate this historic moment in a BIG way! The 100th Anniversary Planning is underway, and we have a group of dedicated adults spearheading four main committees:
- Girls: Ensuring that girl-led and girl-inspired activities take place throughout the council in 2012 to celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouting!
- Alumnae: Creating ways to connect and re-connect our alumnae to Girl Scouting.
- Gala: Planning for our big 100th celebration by organizing a celebration gala - in two locations (GR & TC) held at the same time and connected via video feed!
- PR/Communications: Ensuring our members and the community know about all our great 100th celebrations.
Be sure to look out for an Alumnae Facebook group and our 100th Anniversary Microsite by the end of October - details coming soon!
