ANNAPOLIS UPDATE. . .

Here's a recap of GSSCC advocacy in Annapolis last week and a preview of activity this week:

SB277/HB372 - Maryland Metro Funding Act  - GSSCC appeared before the House Appropriations Committee last week and delivered written testimony to the Senate Budget and Tax Committee seeking long-term dedicated funding for METRO, a key transportation link for Silver Spring and Montgomery County

SB377/HB512 - Labor and Employment - Pay Scales and Wage History Information - GSSCC appeared before the House Economic Matters Committee last week to  oppose a bill that would prohibit an employer to seek information about an applicant's salary history. GSSCC will testify before the Senate Finance Committee this week Tuesday.

H541 - Labor and Employment (Ban the Box) - GSSCC submitted written testimony last week opposing a statewide bill that would prohibit employers from seeking information about a candidate's criminal history until a conditional offer of employment has been made.  During the hearing, Delegate Ben Kramer quoted GSSCC testimony and asked his colleagues whether they would consider moving the point of inquiry to the conclusion of the initial interview, per current Montgomery County law.

HB540 - Labor an Employment - Pre-Tax Transportation Benefit - Requirement - GSSCC submitted written testimony opposing legislation that would have required employers to establish, at their expense, to set up pre-tax transportation benefit accounts for their employees. The bill was defeated in committee.

This week, GSSCC will also testify in support of legislation to provide income and property tax exemptions to businesses adversely impacted during Purple Line construction.  For a list of legislation GSSCC is following, click here.
