Understanding Harassment Workshop Rescheduled

A workshop on  Understanding and Preventing Sexual and Other Unlawful Harassment  has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 6, at the GSSCC offices. This free, members-only workshop, presented by emp loyment law attorney Marc Engel,   Lerch, Early & Brewer , begins at 8 a.m. with i nformal networking over coffee. SB377/HB512 - Labor and Employment - Pay Scales and Wage History Information - GSSCC submitted written testimony to the Senate Finance Committee opposing this that would require employers to publish salaries in all job announcements and prohibit them from seeking information about an applicant's salary history. 

SB624/HB987 State Income and Property Tax Credits - Purple Line Construction Zone - GSSCC testified in the House Ways and Means Committee last week in support of legislation that would provide submitted written testimony opposing legislation that would provide a State income and property tax credit to certain Montgomery and Prince George's County businesses directly impacted by the construction of the Purple Line. This is designed to assist businesses that will be in the middle of a construction zone, on closed or partially closed streets during construction.  This week, GSSCC will testify in favor of the Senate version of the bill at a hearing in the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee. 

HB1510 - Annual Filing Fee - GSSCC submitted written testimony in support of a bill that would reduce the annual tax filing fee from $300 to $25 for companies having fewer than five employees.

GSSCC will submit written testimony this week in opposition to a number of labor and employment bills, including: HB664/SB643 - Fight for Fifteen, specifically portions that would increase the wage for tipped employees to $15 per hour; HB974 - that would raise the salary threshold making more employees eligible for overtime pay, effectively reinstating at the State level, a Federal regulation that was struck down last year;
