TRANSPORTATION NEWS

2 Red Line Stations Shut Down -   Beginning this past Saturday, and continuing through September 3, WMATA has shut down Metro Red Line service between the Fort Totten and NOMA Galludet stations.  In addition, both the Takoma and Fort Totten stations will close next weekend, July 28 and 29.  WMATA has said it will provide bus shuttles, but advises riders to expect delays and plan alternate routes and modes of transportation if possible. During the 45-day project, Metro will return to the Rhode Island Avenue station to complete structural repair work that began during SafeTrack. The Rhode Island Avenue station is Metro's oldest outdoor station and was closed on an emergency basis in 2016 when concrete fell from the aerial structure. For more details, click here

GSSCC Working to Expand Access to Brookville Road Businesses - Since the Lyttonsville Place Bridge was closed on June 18 for reconstruction in connection with The Purple Line, member businesses along Brookville Road and in the Lyttonsville area have struggled to keep customers that must use the long and inconvenient detours set up by the Maryland Transit Administration. GSSCC staff worked with County and State officials to open another access point connecting the communities served by the bridge, but County officials decided to restrict access to this connection during peak hours.  GSSCC has urged County DOT officials to reconsider this decision and eliminate or dramatically reduce the restrictions.  Members that have businesses in this area or others that are impacted by the closing of the bridge should contact  Jane Redicker for more information.
