Director's Message
GVCO and its Caring Hands Foundation are "Good Neighbors" over the Holidays

This past holiday season the GVCO Caring Hands Foundation leadership and volunteers were hard at work once again. Throughout the ye ar a group of Great Valley high school and middle school students volunteer and raise funds to help support people, families and organizations within the community.

During the holidays the GVCO Caring Hands group worked with the Great Valley Senior Center, the Phoenixville Senior Center and the West Chester Senior Center to support some of the areas seniors. Over 35 turkeys, along with $150 in gift cards were delivered to the 3 senior centers during the Thanksgiving holiday through its Good Neighbors C ampaign .

Also late last year the Caring Hands Foundation, through its Needy Families Campaign, worked directly with Terri Lazar, GVSD Social Worker and the local Giant in Lincoln Court, to provide numerous Great Valley families in need with over $2000.00 worth of gift cards.

"Hats off" to the fabulous students from our Great Valley community who give so much of their time throughout the year to help with some of the unfortunate situations here in the area. GVCO is equally thankful to all of the generous community members who support the many causes, who truly make our Great Valley community GREAT!

Junior Hoopsters

Our Junio r Hoopsters program is back in action!  Once a week, our Pre-K and Kindergartners aged 4-6 meet at the GVBL center to learn the fundamentals of basketball.  Passing, dribbling, shooting, and having fun  are the basis for every practice.  The first six week session concluded on January 21 st , and you can see the participants in the picture proudly showing off their medals.  Meanwhile, the second session began last week led by Junior Hoopsters Directors, Kellie Eisenhardt and Amy Campbell along with Temple Intern, Nick Carta.

GVBL Winter Rec. Leagues

The GVBL Winter League serves Great Valley youth from 1 st to 8 th grade.  This league has been playing games since mid November, and it is coming up on its final weeks.  Playoffs will begin starting on February 16 th , and we look to see some competitive games in each division. The Winter League provides a great stepping stone for individuals who seek to compete at a higher level.  Along with our Tournament Teams from grades 4-7, these children have the opportunity to continue developing their skills by participating in GVBL's High School Division.

GVBL High School Division

As with the Winter League, the GVBL High School division will be concluding in the coming weeks and we are looking forward to another exciting set of playoffs.  The last few weeks have been full of very competitive games, including numerous overtime thrillers.  This league consists of 9 teams, 80 participants, and we hope to increase these numbers in future years.  Check out the GVCO website to see how every team is doing along with the top scorers!

GVBL Tournament Teams

The GVBL Tournament Teams are as busy as ever participating in various leagues.  Great Valley is currently being represented very well in the Inter-County Basketball Association.  The Girls 6 th Grade team is currently 6-1 and the highest scoring team in their division.  Teams are also in the process of registering for upcoming Delaware Valley Tournaments.  Look out on our website for a new and improved Tournament Teams page featuring schedules, results, and highlights from past tournaments.

Great Valley Crew
GVCO Announces New GV Crew Program

Last fall a handful of GVHS kids were introduced to the sport of Crew and started a Crew Club. They got on the Schuylkill river in a racing shell, down in Bridgeport, PA and began to learn how to row. After a host of organizational meetings throughout the fall a GV Crew team of 20+ GVHS athletes will be competing this spring. The Crew team is currently participating in their winter workout program and are eager to get on the water in early March. The program held a very successful 1 st Annual Taste of Malvern fundraising event in January to kick off the inaugural season.
