Jackson campaign begins for $830 million bond issue

 

Health officials and civic leaders on Tuesday (9-17) kicked off the political campaign to persuade Miami-Dade voters to approve $830 million in upgrades for Jackson Health System, the county's public hospital network, financed by a property-tax hike.

 

With a special election scheduled for Nov. 5, voters will hear many messages about Jackson's life-saving efforts and future Jackson Memorial Hospital plans as part of the campaign, which is led by the political committee Citizens for a Healthy Miami-Dade.

 

Tuesday's event at the Lois Pope LIFE Center in Miami marked the official launch of the campaign, though proponents have been working behind the scenes for months and raised more than $1 million in donations since May.

Boca Raton Regional Hospital Utilizing First Drug-eluting Stent for Treatment of Peripheral Artery Disease

Hospital First in Palm Beach County to Offer Device

Officials at Boca Raton Regional Hospital announced on September 11 that vascular surgeons at the institution are now employing the first FDA-approved drug-eluting stent in the treatment of patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) in the superficial femoral artery. Boca Regional is the first hospital in Palm Beach County to utilize the device.

 

"With this device, we will begin to undergo a revolution in the management of peripheral artery disease that mirrors the advances realized when drug-eluting stents were introduced in treating coronary artery disease," said W. Anthony Lee, MD, Director of the Endovascular Program at Boca Regional's Christine E. Lynn Heart & Vascular Institute. "We believe this approach will fast become the standard of care for patients with PAD."
