City of Westlake Approves Site Plan for New Emergency Medical Facility 
The City of Westlake has paved the way to secure its first medical facility to serve the residents of the city and Central Palm Beach County. On Feb. 12, 2018, city council members approved a site plan for a 10,379-square-foot Freestanding Emergency Department (FED) with room for future expansion of a 2,000-square-foot medical office building.

The 5.66-acre site will be sold by Minto Communities to Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS) to develop the facility, which will be located at 16400 Persimmon Boulevard at the intersection with Seminole Pratt Whitney Road. Construction is expected to begin by the end of the year. UHS is one of the nation's largest hospital management companies, operating more than 350 acute care hospitals, behavioral health facilities and ambulatory centers across the U.S. Locally, UHS owns the Wellington Regional Medical Center.
Nicklaus Children's Designated National Program Office for Victor Center for Prevention of Jewish Genetic Diseases 
Miami based Nicklaus Children's Hospital has been designated the national program office for the  Victor Center for the Prevention of Jewish Genetic Diseases, an entity dedicated to the prevention of inherited diseases common among the Jewish population. The Nicklaus Children's Hospital Victor Center will maintain and expand the nation-wide collaborative work of the center in promoting education related to the importance of preconception genetic education, as well the provision of accessible genetic screening and genetic counseling. Nicklaus Children's has been a regional affiliate of the Victor Center since 2013.

FAU Approved for Neurology Residency Program 
Florida Atlantic University's Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine has received initial accreditation from the national Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for a University-sponsored residency program in neurology, in collaboration with Boca Raton Regional Hospital (BRRH), and Tenet HealthCare system's Delray Medical Center (DMC), members of the FAU College of Medicine Graduate Medical Education (GME) Consortium. An extensive network of neurologists in the region also will provide elective sites for the program and serve as lecturers.
