The Palm Beach Children's Hospital Remodels and Expands Pediatric Unit

To further enhance patient care services and continue to meet the growing needs of the community, the West Palm Beach based Palm Beach Children's Hospital at St. Mary's Medical Center is expanding its Pediatric Medical/Surgical Unit. Located on the third floor, the new pediatric wing will feature a new Step-down Unit, interactive playroom, family lounge, enlarged procedure room and more spacious private rooms.

"Our goal is to enhance the overall experience and healing process for patients and their families," said CEO Gabrielle Finley-Hazle. "The Palm Beach Children's Hospital plans to continue to expand to meet the growing needs of our community."

The Palm Beach Children's Hospital at St. Mary's was recently voted Best Pediatric ER and Best Pediatric Hospital in the county by South Florida Parenting Magazine. In addition to providing award-winning care, the hospital offers additional resources for the entire family, including child life specialists who provide play and diversion therapy to help reduce patients' stress and anxiety.

Sunrise-based national medical group Mednax saw third-quarter revenue increase 14.6 percent to $828 million, up from $722.3 million a year ago, driven primarily by acquisitions made since July 2015.

The company reported a quarterly profit of $96.5 million, or $1.04 a share, compared with $90.8 million, or 97 cents a share, a year ago. Net income includes $10.6 million, or 11 cents a share, related to settlement of a tax matter, Mednax said.

"We believe we are well-positioned, strategically and financially, to continue to grow," CEO Dr. Roger Medel said.

Mednax's revenue growth attributable to recent acquisitions was 13.2 percent for the third quarter that ended Sept. 30, while overall revenue increased by 1.4 percent when compared to a year ago, the company said.
