  • Hallmarks of a Value-Added ERM Program
    Learn the elements of a successful enterprise risk management function through a case study of Hess Corporation.
  • The Kitchen Sink of Risk Finance
    Attend this session to gain a better understanding of risk tolerance, actuarial evaluation, trending analysis and allocation models.
  • Risk Taker vs. Risk Manager
    This session will explore how executives think about risk and how risk managers can benefit from adopting part of this worldview.
  • Risky Contracts
    Learn how to establish insurance requirements for most contracts and how to verify compliance with those requirements during the term and termination of the contract.

New Chapter Charterings - Gamma Is Growing!
Industry Supporters and Alumni Attendees Welcome!

GIS is proud to announce that two new schools will be officially joining the organization this fall. The Gamma Beta Chapter at the University of Akron will charter September 14, 2017 and the Gamma Gamma Chapter at Iowa State University will charter September 16, 2017.





Attendance and support from the industry and GIS alumni is key at the charterings. If you are interested and may be able to attend, please contact grace.grant@gammaiotasigma.org

Congratulations to Mr. Tim Cook
VCU's Outstanding Professional Faculty Member for 2017


Mr. Tim Cook, Director of the Virginia Commonwealth University Risk and Insurance Studies Center, was recognized as the Outstanding Professional Faculty Member for 2017 at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business.

In his time at VCU; Tim has brought the School of Business and his students a wealth of knowledge, a vast network of professional contacts and a contagious passion for education and the risk management and insurance industries. He has steadily grown the Risk Management and Insurance program and the Gamma Iota Sigma - Alpha Mu chapter, to which he is the faculty advisor, to heights that brought national recognition to the University and the School of Business. His name will be added to the wall in the Snead Hall atrium that recognizes all outstanding members of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business. Tim has already left his mark on the Risk Management and Insurance Center now all those that walk through the building will know what an impact he has made to the University and his students.

GIS Students Plan and Lead Another Successful Event!

GIS students are well-known for hosting and planning inter-chapter events that provide students opportunities for learning, networking, and personal growth. Congratulations to the Chi Chapter at Drake University on hosting the incredibly successful Drake Symposium on Leadership and Insurance in Des Moines, IA, from April 8th-9th, 2017. The annual event included speaker sessions, a formal, and a golf tournament/clinic.

GIS members from Alpha Iota Chapter at St. John's University, the Sigma Chapter at Temple University, and the Beta Pi Chapter at the University of St. Thomas traveled to Drake to attend.

The Insurance Basketball Tournament is Back!
Shoot Some Hoops on June 15th at DePaul University in Chicago, IL

Back by popular demand, it's the the Insurance Basketball Tournament! 

This is a 5 on 5 co-ed basketball tournament for folks in and around the insurance industry. If you can be in the area, set up a team and have some fun! 

When: Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 6pm - 8pm
Where: Ray Meyer Fitness Center at DePaul University
Cost: Team Registration Fee: $100.
The fee will be used to cover the operating fees. 
If there are proceeds remaining they will be donated to charity: water

Please try to ensure that the majority of your teams are in insurance-adjacent careers. The event planners are focused on providing an opportunity for insurance professionals to network. Please feel free to forward this information along to other insurance folks that you think might be interested.

To Register: Please send the name and email address of your team captain, along with the first and last names of the folks on your roster to gammaalumnichicago@gmail.com. Team registration closes on Thursday, June 1st.
