The Road Show Happy Hour Drew a Crowd!
The Grand Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma and the Dallas Chapter of the GIS Alumni Council hosted a Road Show Happy Hour on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Meso Maya in Dallas, Texas. The evening provided the attendees with an opportunity to meet current GIS student members, alumni, and organization representatives and connect with current and former colleagues and classmates. This was a perfect kickoff event for the GIS Annual International Conference just under four months away!
Thank you to the many industry attendees and supporters, as well as the alumni, student and faculty attendees from so many schools. As always, you put your best selves forward and ignited interest in the 2017 Annual International Conference, while perfectly representing GIS.

Student Spotlight:
"The intentional commitment to students at all levels makes Gamma Iota Sigma very unique. From industry conferences to networking events, everything is designed to make you succeed as a student."
Name: Florent (AC) Ndindjock
School:
University of Texas at Dallas
Chapter:
Beta Phi
Officer Title:
Vice President, Recruitment
Major:
Finance/Risk Management & Insurance
Graduation:
May 2017
What do you hope to do with your degree in Risk Management, Insurance, or Actuarial Science?
I would like to work as a Risk Analyst upon my graduation. I have gained interest in both Surplus Line and Commercial Line underwriting as well. The challenges of the underwriting job and the analytical aspect of it, are very enticing.
Why did you choose to major in Risk Management, Insurance, or Actuarial Science?
I am naturally a risk adverse person. I truly believe that for any organization to succeed, it has to wholeheartedly adopt a risk management framework and encourage everyone within the enterprise to follow suit. I love analyzing complex situations and coming up with ways to make them adaptable. For that reason, I was naturally attracted to the Risk Management and Insurance industry.
Why did you join Gamma Iota Sigma?
I have been around many college fraternities in the past but none like Gamma Iota Sigma that embodies professionalism and a genuine interest in the success of its members. The intentional commitment to students at all levels makes Gamma Iota Sigma very unique. From industry conferences to networking events, everything is designed to make you succeed as a student.
How has your participation in Gamma Iota Sigma prepared you for your career?
I have been privileged to participate in many networking events and industry conferences organized by Gamma Iota Sigma. Those events gave me the opportunity to meet and get to know industry experts who have graciously shared their knowledge with me and have encouraged me in my pursuit. I am thankful for Gamma Iota Sigma for having made it possible and I can say with confidence that every year spent in school and all the networking have prepared me for my career in the risk management and insurance industry.
What would you say to a student interested in joining Gamma Iota Sigma?
It does pay to give it a try. The insurance industry is going through a major transformation and there is a great need for younger talents. The cost of the membership dues is nothing in comparison to all the benefits that you receive as a member. You get out what you put in. I would encourage any student interested in joining Gamma Iota Sigma to trust the process and go in with an open mind and willingness to learn alongside the best in the industry. I do not know if you can get that elsewhere.
