Keeping You Up-to-Date on the Ganaraska Forest Management Plan
GANARASKA FOREST MANAGEMENT PLAN
Community E-News Issue # 3
A New Year and New Challenges
The beginning of 2017 began with the challenge of finding a new author of the
Ganaraska Forest Management Plan (FMP), as the original Forester stepped down from his position. Thus, the
Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority (GRCA) is pleased to introduce Lawrence (Larry) Powell, Registered Professional Forester and Gus Saurer, Forest Technician. Larry was hired specifically to author the FMP, while Gus is on contract until the end of March, completing the inventory.
Making Progress
Through public input and stakeholder interviews, a
Synopsis Report has been developed. This report
highlights the engagement process and importantly, the guidance and advice that has been forthcoming from members of the Ganaraska Forest community. Developed as a stand-alone document, the Synopsis Report should be viewed as a companion document to the Forest Management Plan, once the updated Plan has been developed and approved by the GRCA Full Authority Board of Directors.
What's Next
As inventory is completed throughout the Ganaraska Forest, and sections of the FMP are being completed through staff involvement, the Plan is on target to be presented to the GRCA Full Authority Board at the May 2017 meeting.
