New Sermon Series UUMC Contact
In the Gospel of John, Jesus makes specific statements regarding his identity.  These are referred to as the "I Am" sayings.  In each of these sayings, Jesus describes himself using rich metaphors full of meaning and application for our lives. Beginning on April 29, 2012 and concluding on Pentecost Sunday, May 29, 2012, Dr. Van Stinson will explore these unique sayings of Jesus in John and the rich metaphors that they contain, such as light, bread, gate, good shepherd, resurrection, way, truth, life and vine. This series of five sermons will explore these important "I Am" sayings and offer practical application for our daily lives as we seek to be faithful followers of Christ.

Some things never grow old and never go out of fashion -- some things remain "cool" forever. Bible stories are timeless, and the tale of a Godly guy named Daniel, his three side-kicks and a fiery furnace is about as cool as it gets. So too is the classic children's musical that recounts this captivating tale of Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar, Shadrack, Meshach & Abednego  with humor, action, and spiritual heart.

Please join the Asbury and Wesley Choirs as they present It's Cool in the Furnace at 6:00pm in the Sanctuary on Sunday, May 6th! The kids have been working very hard and showing your support by attending their performance is greatly appreciated! Join us afterwards for an ice cream social in the Fellowship Hall!

Kids Hope News UUMC Contact
It doesn't seem possible that the end of the school year is already here.  What a great year it has been for Kids Hope because of YOU!  Your faithfulness to this life-changing program is truly awe-inspiring and I can never thank you enough for honoring the commitment to making a difference in a deserving child's life. As Van so eloquently reminded us in last Sunday's sermon, you are the hands of Christ in action.  Your pats on your child's back, your high fives, your hugs..  those loving touches bring hope to their lives in ways we'll never truly comprehend.

There will be no mentoring next week, instead I hope to see all of you at our End of the Year Celebration on Friday, May 4th from 1:45 -
3:00 pm in the cafeteria at University Terrace.  We'll have some entertainment, awards, and goodies for the children to take home.  This will be the last time we will be with our children this year, so please take a few minutes to bring closure for them and remind them of your plans for next year.

Upcoming Dates:
  • 4/23 - 4/27 - Last week of mentoring
  • Thursday 4/26 - 8:30 am - 1:30 pm - 5th  Grade Field Trip to Burden Trees and Trails (any volunteers welcome to help chaperone)
  • Tuesday, 5/1 - 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm - Garden Team hosts Wizard of Oz Garden Party for all 3rd graders (all volunteers welcome, especially mentors of 3rd graders)
  • Friday 5/4 - 1:45 pm - 3:00 pm - Kids Hope End of the Year Celebration @ UT
  • Friday 5/11 - Kids Hope hosts End of Year Luncheon for UT Teachers
  • Friday 5/18 - 9:30am - 5th Grade Graduation Ceremony at University United Methodist Church (all mentors of 5th graders welcome)
Thank you for touching the lives of the children at University Terrace with the love of Christ!

Good News!
I love bringing you good news.  As you can see from the numbers for the year to date ending March 31 (seen below), we are doing well financially.  Preschool and After School have done better than budgeted and their enrollment for the fall is looking good.  Our expenses are also better than budgeted due to conscientious spending of the staff and department heads.  And, there are good timing differences such as advanced payment of football parking and receipts of First Gifts.  But none of this would be possible with out you, the congregation and donors.  Thank you for being good, faithful stewards and allowing me to be able to bring you good news this quarter.  Let's keep it up!  If you have any questions, please contact Ruthie Fahey or myself.

Martha Stuckey, Financial Chair

LSU GAME DAY PARKING SEASON PASSES NOW ON SALE!
UUMC Contact
Each year University United Methodist Church sells parking on LSU football game days as a fundraiser. This year, season passes are being sold for $240 for the 2012 season (8 games at $30 each). This is a great deal considering that LSU just announced that many of their paid lots will now only be available for season ticket holders at a price of $600 per season.

We are hoping to pre-sell both of our lots as season passes. This not only guarantees the church a set income for the year to put towards our budget and ministry, but it also allows for less volunteers to be needed for each game - it's a win-win!

If you would be interested in purchasing a LSU Football Gameday Season Parking Pass for the 2012 season, please click this link to get more details and to download a form to fill out and return with your payment.

Parking spaces are sold on a first come, first serve basis. Parking is open to all, not just UUMC Members. Please pass on this information to anyone who you think may be interested!
