As we approach the end of the second week of the 2018 Session, VASSP has been very busy being your middle level and high school education advocate at the Virginia General Assembly. Already, over 2,500 bills have been introduced, with over 300 pertaining to education.

Please use this link or the button below to access a list of the current education bills at the Virginia General Assembly being tracked by VASSP. This list of education bills is now organized by category for your convenience.
Of particular note, Senator Bryce E. Reeves' discipline bill ( SB 476) passed unanimously in the Senate Education Subcommittee this week. VASSP spoke in favor of flexibility for principals.

Delegate Chris Hurst's bill, HB 1501,is intended to restore the original voting rules of the Standards of Learning Innovation Committee by removing language that gives legislators on the committee the veto power over all of the 28 citizen-members. Past VASSP Presidents Michael Davidson and Dr. Brian Matney are members of this committee.
