Generations United Shout Out
It's World Humanitarian Day,  an opportunity to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the globe. An example of that inspiring spirit is HelpAge USA's "Intergenerational Healthy Aging," a project being implemented in Kibaha, Tanzania, promoting active and healthy aging across the life course. They conducted a survey to help improve outreach efforts across age groups. Learn more

Raising Our Children's Children
Based on her personal experience raising a grandchild, Deborah Doucette's Raising Our Children's Children examines the myriad factors involved in kinship care, specifically when grandparents begin to raise their grandchildren. Filled with true stories from people who have raised their children's children, and including advice from Dr. Jeffrey R. LaCure throughout, this family-focused book looks at this fairly common relationship from all sides. Now in its second edition, Raising Our Children's Children has been updated to include recent social developments, such as the trend toward multigenerational family living where children, their parents, and their grandparents all live under one roof. Do you know of any films, books, music and TV shows with an intergenerational theme?  Share them with us  and we'll share in the weeks and months to come. Disclaimer:  Inclusion in this section is not an endorsement from Generations United. Rather, it is a way of showing the multiplying impact when the arts and pop culture are age-advantaged.

Cool Ideas
Manor of the Plains
This week's cool idea is Manor of the Plains, an adult living facility based in Kansas where residents volunteer to be matched with a student from an immigrant family, and the group meets monthly throughout the school year. Got something cool you tried that was successful? Why not tweet your cool intergenerational ideas to  #cooligideas ? You can also post them to our  Intergenerational Connections  Facebook Group. We want to highlight innovative age-optimized programs and practices through our blog, social media and weekly e-newsletter!  Share the inspiration . Learn more about Manor of the Plains
Want to be Considered for a Bookend Blog?
Three years ago, we started a series known as the Bookend Blog. (see:  Betty White's Off Their Rockers .) The series got its name from our contributing writers, youth and older adults, both of whom we refer to as the "bookends" that hold our civil society together. Bookend bloggers comment on current events and offer generational perspectives. Does this sound like you? Read the submission guidelines, then let us know  if you want to be considered for our Bookend Blog.
