TANF Policy Brief and Summary
The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program is an irony of sorts. While Congress envisioned it as a critical support for "kinship families" or "grandfamilies," the actual framework does not consider those groups. It's Art Appreciation Month!
We honor the arts by highlighting both Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) and Danceworks Intergenerational Multi-Arts Program (IMAP). Based at the Scripps Gerontology Center in Oxford, Ohio, OMA uses the arts to help improve the physical and psychological well-being of people with dementia - learn more. Danceworks IMAP uses the arts to build community between students from Milwaukee schools and older adults from assisted-living and adult day programs - learn more.

Bipartisan Bill Introduced to Expand Community Schools
A few weeks ago, The Coalition for Community Schools and its nearly 200 partners applauded House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL) for introducing a bipartisan bill that authorizes funding for full-service community schools, which are public elementary or secondary schools that coordinate multiple federal, state and/or local educational and social service programs and opportunities with community-based organizations and public/private partnerships. Bridge Meadows' 9th Annual Fall Gala Join Bridge Meadows on Sept. 25 for a celebration at the Portland Art Museum. This unique multigenerational community, located in the Portsmouth neighborhood of North Portland, connects adoptive parents, foster children, and elders with a shared vision of a better tomorrow. The Fall Gala, one of their largest fundraising events, was a hit last year, when they entertained nearly 400 people. Learn more about this year's gala. |
