Census Bureau's Data on Grandfamilies Now Available
In time for National Grandparents Day on Sept. 7, the U.S. Census Bureau released its facts and figures on the contributions of grandparents as caregivers. According to the data, 2.7 million grandparents were responsible for the basic needs of one or more grandchildren under age 18 living with them in 2012. "Of these caregivers," the report stated, "1.7 million were grandmothers and 1 million were grandfathers." Read the full report.

Grandparents Day is four days away! We kicked off our social media campaign yesterday. You can still help us raise awareness and recognize the role that older Americans, whether grandparents or not, play in the lives of children and youth. Check out our Social Media Toolkit for scheduled days to share sample tweets, Facebook posts and newsletter items through your networks. Help us get Grandparents Day 2014 on Google Doodle! Campus Kitchen Launch Grants. The Campus Kitchens Project, a national non-profit that empowers student leaders to create innovative and sustainable solutions to hunger, has numerous funding options and grant opportunities available to schools across the country to help with the planning and implementation of a Campus Kitchen. Foundation Grants. The Safeway Foundation supports nonprofits providing services in four priority areas: hunger relief, education, health and human services, and assisting people with disabilities. Deadlines: quarterly and biannual. Learn more
