Senators Collins and Casey to Receive Generations United's Grandfamilies Champion Award!
We're thrilled to announce that
Senator Susan Collins
and
Senator Bob Casey
will accept the award during our
2017 State of Grandfamilies
Report release event
on
Sept. 13, at 5 p.m., in the Dirksen Senate Office Building (Room G-11).
The report
will focus on the critical role of grandparents and other relatives in providing safe, nurturing and stable homes for children who have experienced trauma. Register today!

- In celebration of International Youth Day, Donna Butts honored the youth who took part in the Department of Public Information's annual NGO convening at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in early August. Learn more
- Last week, Jaia Peterson Lent was among the policy experts at the National Academy of Social Insurance's event on demystifying social security. She and others explained why the social insurance program is important for so many people other than retirees. The event was livestreamed by C-SPAN. Watch the recording.

During the confirmation hearing for the Assistant Secretary nominee,
Lance Robertson, Senator
Susan Collins highlighted a bill that would create a task force to support grandparents raising grandchildren. Robertson also spoke about being raised in a
grandfamily

#BandAGEofHonor Campaign
Our vaccine team in Japan, led by the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute on Gerontology (TMIG), launched an English-version of their site for
Valuing Vaccinations Across Generations
, an awareness-raising campaign that promotes vaccines for all ages.
In the United States, the campaign started in partnerships between Generations United, the Gerontological Society of America and the American Academy of Pediatrics with support from Pfizer.
Generations United is expanding its international campaign as we continue working with teams led by TMIG and the University of Granada - Business Sector Foundation in Spain. Follow

Let's End Ageism
In her TED talk, our friend,
Ashton Applewhite, addresses stereotypes and assumptions of older adults. She urges her audience to help end ageism. "A movement to end ageism is underway," she said. "I'm in it, and I hope you will join me."
