Save the Date: 2014 Families in Society

Join Generations United and the Alliance for Children and Families at the National Press Club on May 13 from 9:30am to 10:45am (EDT), where we'll mark the 20th anniversary of the International Year of the Family by releasing new poll results and a signature report.

Mr. Rogers Understood the Importance of Intergenerational Play

As a kid, Fred Rogers' heroes were caped crusaders who could lift buildings with one arm. That changed when he became an adult. He explained: "...now I can honestly say that anyone who does anything to help a child is a hero to me." In their Huffington Post blog, Donna Butts and Dr. Sally Newman not only honored the late TV host, but also showed how intergenerational programs make everyone a hero. Read more

Passage of the Kinship Care Law

Ana Beltran, our Special Advisor, has been providing ongoing technical assistance to advocates in Kentucky who are pursuing this legislation. Generations United has a policy brief on these types of state laws, which allow relatives without guardianship or legal custody of the children in their care to access health care and/or education on behalf of the children. Kentucky will join at least eleven other states who have similar laws that allow children to access both health care and education. Learn more

Youth Grant. Peace First is offering grants of $25,000 to 5-10 winners between the ages of 8 and 22 for creating positive change in their community. The Peace First Prize is a chance to celebrate the powerful contributions of the youth peacemakers. Deadline: March 31. Learn more
