A Victory for Grandfamilies

Generations United applauds the passage of the Family First Prevention Services Act 

in the House of Representatives last night! This act includes multiple provisions to support grandfamilies including services to prevent children from entering foster care. The bill next moves to the Senate for consideration. Call your Senators to voice your support (Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121)Also, we urge organizations to sign onto the Children's Defense Fund sign-on letter in support of the bill. Groundbreaking on Grandparent Apartments in D.C.
We're thrilled about the groundbreaking earlier this week and that our member, PSS/WSF Grandfamily Apartments, is the inspiration behind the grandfamily apartments coming to D.C. According to the Washington City Paper, the Plaza West apartments " will contain 50 units devoted to 'grandfamilies.'"  Learn more

Filmmaker Launches Fundraiser to Complete an Intergenerational Film
Our friend and filmmaker, Evan Briggs, launched an Indiegogo campaign with two ways to support her film, Present Perfect, a documentary on the benefits of intergenerational connections. The film is currently in the early rough cut stage. All proceeds will go to refining and completing the film. Donate to the $10 campaign or pre-purchase a digital copy of the film for $25. Learn more

Does your intergenerational program meet critical needs in your community? Does it provide clear, meaningful roles for participants of all ages and abilities? Do you go above and beyond to train staff and participants? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you may have what it takes to be named an intergenerational Program of Distinction! Each year, we recognize outstanding programs across the country that reflect the rich diversity among programs that involve older and younger generations. The deadline to apply is June 30, 2016 . Think Intergenerational - Funding Opportunities
KaBOOM! Let's Play Community Construction Grants
Dr. Pepper, Snapple and KaBOOM! teamed up to offer $15,000 grants for the purchase of playground equipment. Grantees will lead their community through a self-guided planning process, using the $15,000 grant towards the total cost of playground equipment and assembling the playground using the KaBOOM! community-build model. Deadline: July 1, 2016. Learn more

Policy and Advocacy Grant. The Tufts Health Plan Foundation is offering grants to aid communities expanding access to programs and services for all ages and include system change/improvement. Community/civic engagement must involve diverse stakeholders mobilizing and affecting change.  LOI Deadline: July 20, 2016. Learn more
