Congrats to the 2014 NonProfit Times Power & Influence Top 50 Honorees

Tribute to Sam Osterhage

We remember Sam Osterhage, a Generations United/Mentor Up Youth Jumpstart Grantee, who passed away recently. A resident of Santa Barbara, CA, he designed an intergenerational program, "Play it Forward" to incorporate the older adult community with the young rockers of the Rockshop Academy. Osterhage inspired his peers, who are also passionate about making an impact in their community. His fellow Youth Jumpstart Grantee, Sean Butler, said Osterhage is unforgettable. "We immediately became friends not only because we had so much in common, but because of his warm welcoming heart," said Butler, who met Osterhage at the Generations United/Mentor Up's January convening in Washington, DC. "His personality brought a smile to all of our faces. I can say he was truly a blessing to this world and will be missed dearly." Read other tributes to Sam on the TEAM SAMO Facebook page.

In the News
In an article co-authored with Brent Shafer, Bill Novelli noted that today's technology makes it possible for 90 percent of older Americans, who want to age in place, to do so. But few plan to use the very devices that will help them live independently. Read "The IT keys to aging in place."
Quote

"A society for all ages is multigenerational. It is not fragmented, with youths, adults and older persons going their separate ways. Rather, it is age-inclusive, with different generations recognizing - and acting upon - their commonality of interest." ~UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, October, 1998
