Travel Blog:  Walker Students Study in Israel

Walker School students spent Spring Break immersed in Israeli culture.  Guided by Tom Cornwell, visiting professor and Walker School Advisory Board member, the experience is one of several available through Walker Global Hybrid Courses.  From visiting Microsoft-Israel to touring the Holy City of Jerusalem, the week-long trip capped off the eight weeks students spent studying about Israeli businesses and culture online.  Check out the travel blog for photos and details.

Dean's Book Review:  Willful Blindness

If what you don't know can't hurt you, then one would think that ignorance truly is bliss.  However, in the book, Willful Blindness:  Why We Ignore the Obvious at Our Peril, Margaret Heffernan makes the case that most of us in business aren't blissful but rather bind.  Read Dean Benjamin Ola. Akande's review for a preview of the corporations and corporate culture discussed in this book.

Career Development
When was the last time you paid attention to the maintenance man in your office building? However good he may be, chances are you never sought him out to tell him you appreciate how clean everything always is or how the temperature is just right every day. The reason is probably because when he does his job right, he becomes invisible.

Likewise, your accomplishments can go unnoticed because the boss is paying attention to his/her own problem areas, and your expert work gets taken for granted. If your accomplishments haven't been getting noticed, it's time to do something about it.

David Hults, renowned career coach and Walker School alum, suggests that you create a job journal to document the results you produce. In his latest article on the Walker Blog, he provides a framework for your job journal and offers advice for approaching your boss for a raise or promotion.
