Girls In Aviation Day Location
The WAI Mile High Chapter reached out to the Denver Air Route Traffic Control Center (ZDV) In Longmont CO asking if they would host this annual event October 13th. ZDV's Air Traffic Manager (ATM), Mary Lou Lambert, approved 50 girls ages 10-18.
Our Vision
Our vision for ZDV hosting will include 5 stations for groups to rotate through.
The day would start off, introducing Air Traffic Control (ATC) and what controllers do here at the center. Along with a controller and a pilot introduction.
From there the girls will be divided into groups based on age and given a book that they will take to each station. The book will help them perform the activities and write notes.

STATIONS:

Flight Planning / Weather / Maps  - The girls will have to create a flight plan getting them from Denver to their destination based off of the weather and terrain. The pilots are going to work with them further on this to determine gas, weight etc.

ATC Reenactment  - In each girl's book will be a flight strip and type of aircraft on it with the aircraft details. A flight strip will be printed out with the girls name and type of aircraft for the "controllers" working the planes. We will staff a control tower and radar potion. With the help of our volunteer pilots, the girls can play ATC and take turns being a controller and airplanes while learning about ATC and specific airplanes.
Team Building  - Pilots and Controllers want to teach the girls the importance of working together and communication. The girls would watch the following  video (will be edited) showcasing an emergency situation.  The rest of the Team Building Station will be built around the importance of this video, knowing when to ask for help, how to be a team player and general discussion over the many topics presented in the video.

Control Room Walk through - The girls will have the opportunity to walk through the control room and watch how the aviation world works together and witness controllers separating aircraft and issuing safety alerts.
Lunch

National Air Traffic Controllers Association will be sponsoring a chicken and beef taco bar lunch. Chicken nuggets and grilled cheese sandwiches will also be available. Along with a dessert table with cupcakes, fruit and chips.
Water and gatorade will be available throughout the day.
The 1st 50 girls, 10-18 to sign up will get this amazing opportunity!
