I am announcing that I am running for Chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia.
Our Chairman, Brian Moran announced that he would be stepping down from his position earlier today. It is important that we take a moment to thank him for his service. His leadership helped to place Virginia in the win column for our President and Senator-elect Tim Kaine. Seeing him travel the Commonwealth and dedicate his time to the Democratic Party in the last several months of the election was an inspiration, and I am proud to have his support as I purse election to succeed him.
I have a vision that the Democratic Party can build upon the success of the 2012 election, channel our grassroots strength and achieve victory in 2013 and beyond.
I am also seeking election to this position so that I can make sure that we are focusing on what is happening in Richmond. As the House Minority Whip, when I am in session I am fighting first hand for the Virginia in which we want to live. I am proud to work as part of a leadership team that brings Democrats together, and I look forward to adding an element to our party that will better connect our grassroots supporters to the issues we are facing in Richmond every winter.
While I know the path ahead will be a challenging one, I am proud to have the support of so many of my friends and colleagues including many members of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus as well as many members of the Virginia House and Senate Caucuses.
I am also grateful to have the support of several candidates for office, including former DNC Chairman and candidate for Governor Terry McAuliffe.
A story like mine could only be written here, and it can only be achieved when we have strong, compassionate leaders. I look forward to sharing my story with you, and hearing yours.
Over the next several days, I will be reaching out to members of the state central committee, local party chairs, and our activists. More importantly, I look forward to hearing from them and from you.
All my best,
