Rhapsody in Green gala

Join us for Rhapsody in Green, A Night of Glitz and Glamour on Saturday, June 23, from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside. Enjoy an evening of live music, dancing, a silent auction, food, cocktails and much more! Gala sponsors include AT&T Louisiana, Clear Channel New Orleans, Fox 8 TV, and Whitney Bank, and additional gala and 100thanniversary sponsors are needed. If you are interested in serving on a committee to solicit silent auction items, work the event, secure sponsorships, and help sell tickets/tables for this exciting event, contact Cerise McClendon at (504) 733-8220, ext. 2222. Gala tickets will be on sale in early March.

Annual Family Giving Update

Girl Scout service units across the council proved they could put on

successful fundraising events, raising 63 percent of the 2012 Annual

Family Giving Campaign's $57,000 goal. A total of 24 service units met

their goals, earning them a free service unit encampment at Camps

Whispering Pines or Covington and/or donor dollars.

Congratulate the following service units for surpassing their 2012 Annual Family Giving Campaign goals:

Council Shop is now online!

Shop online at your convenience! Girl Scout badges, uniforms, handbooks, and other items are now for sale in the council's new online shop, accessible at or by clicking the Shop link on the council website at or council Facebook page.

Prefer to come shop in person? Shop hours at the two council shops located in the Council Headquarters in at 841 S. Clearview Parkway, Jefferson, and the Regional Service Center at 545 Colonial Drive, Baton Rouge, are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the first Saturday of the month, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., August - May.

The new 100th anniversary cookie is "Savannah Smiles," a bite-sizeSavannah SmilesdSavannah Smiles leon wedge cookie, dusted in powered sugar. It's named to honor the city where Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon Low made the decision to start Girl Scouting back in March 1912.


We encourage you to attend the Cookie rally in your area, for fun games, safety tips, and cookie-tasting!

 Join us for our Centennial Extravaganza

Be a part of history as we celebrate Girl Scouting's 100th anniversary at the Winn-Dixie GSLE Centennial Extravaganza on Saturday, March 17, 2012,from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (carnival remaining open until 9 p.m.) at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales. Girls and their families will enjoy a carnival of rides, games, and other hands-on activities as we learn about Girl Scouting across the years, and celebrate the international sisterhood of Girl Scouting with World Thinking Day activities including a parade of flags!


Tickets to the Extravaganza (excluding carnival rides) are $8 per person, if pre-ordered by Friday, March 2, and will be $10 at the door. Children 3 and under and senior citizens 70 and older will be admitted free. Discounted $5 tickets are available to troops/girls/ adults working as presenters, who will also receive free event patches as well as special Worker Bee patches. Carnival Riding Bracelets are $5 each for unlimited riding. Games and food items will be available for individual purchase at carnival booths. Possible concession stand(s) inside main stage area.

Apply to be a delegate at Girls' World Forum 2012

world forumGirl Scouts Louisiana East will sponsor two delegates (Girl Scouts ages 14-18) to the Girls' World Forum 2012 being held in Chicago, July 12-16, 2012 and hosted by the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) and World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). The forum will engage girls from around the world in discussions addressing the United Nations Millennium Development Goals to end poverty and hunger; to promote gender equality and empower women; and to achieve the environmental sustainability.

Selected participants will be responsible for $200 of the event fee, with the council paying the balance and round-trip airfare/ground transportation in Chicago. A Special Hornets offer for Girl Scouts

Through our relationship with the Hornets, supporters of Girl Scouts Louisiana East have exclusive access to tickets for select Hornets games this season, with a portion of each ticket purchased donated back to Girl Scouts Louisiana East.

Tickets are available for the Jan. 11 Hornets Thunder game, the Jan. 13 Hornets Timberwolves game, the Jan. 16 Hornets Portland game, and the Jan. 18 Hornets Grizzlies game.  There is also a separate offer for the January 21 Girl Scout Father Daughter Night, and the March 3 Honeybee Dance Clinic & Game .

 Our Girls Our Future Luncheon is March 15 in Baton Rouge

Happy 100th Birthday, Girl Scouts! All Girl Scout alumnae, friends, and volunteers are invited to the council's 100th anniversary fundraising luncheon on Thursday, March 15, from 12 to 1 p.m. (meet and greet at 11:30 a.m.) at the Lod Cook Alumni Center on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. Corporate sponsors include Albemarle Foundation, Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Gulf Coast Office Products, and LaPorte CPAs & Business Advisors, with additional luncheon and 100th anniversary sponsors needed. Table captains who host a table of their friends and colleagues are also needed. Please contact Cathy Pottschmidt at (800) 644-7571, ext. 1238 for additional information. Suggested minimum donation for the luncheon is $50.

Leisure Learning Weekend - April 27-29

Join your friends for a great, fun, educational and relaxing weekend at Camp Marydale. We do the cooking and you enjoy your choice of workshops with topics such as: Advanced Outdoor Cooking, Archery, Geocaching, Leadership Essentials, Low-Ropes Challenge Course, Project Adventure, Quilting, Songs/Games/Ceremonies, How to develop a Take Action project, How to plan Travel & Trips with your troop/group.


Girl Scouts Louisiana East has a commitment to its volunteers to provide an ongoing adult education program. Learning and developing new skills and insights are all part of the Girl Scout program, and not just for girls! For registration and information go to
