The new Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting (binder book) is now in stock for a special introductory price of $16.87 (price good until March 2012). Special on Journey t-shirts for Daisies, Brownies & Juniors: Reg. $18 - now $12.99 (in stock only). Special on Pocket Stew Cookbook: reg. $10 - now $4.99. All retiring program books, Try-Its, Junior badges & IP patches for Cadettes & up), are all half-price, IN STOCK ONLY, NO SPECIAL ORDERS, NO RETURNS.

 

Starter Kits were a huge success this year. While new troops may still purchase all the items within a starter kit; the free cinch bag will only be available while supplies last.

 

Due to the introduction of the new Girl Scout programming Girl Scouts Louisiana East has postponed the launch of its online store until January 2012.

 

Effective November 1

Girl Scouts Louisiana East will begin collecting East Baton Rouge parish sales tax (5%) on items sold in the Baton Rouge Council Shop. This will be in addition to the Louisiana sales tax (4%); which we are currently collecting. This will bring the sales tax on purchases in the in the Baton Rouge shop to 9%. Girl Scouts Louisiana East retains none of these funds; as these taxes are collected and then remitted to the appropriate authorities.

 

Beginning November 1, all phone, email and online orders shipped through the Council Shops will be charged the following shipping charges:

0-$25 = $4

$25.01-$50 = $6

$50.01-$75 = $8

$75.01-$100 = $10

$100.0-$150 = $12

$150.0-$200 = $14

$200.0-$250 = $16

$250.0-$300 = $18

$300.0-$400 = $20

$400.01-$500 = $22

$500.01 and up = $25

 

 

 
Leisure Learning Weekend - Camp Whispering Pines

Whether you are a volunteer looking to brush up on skills, or a Girl Scout alumna who wants to reconnect with camp and make friends, you won't want to miss this exciting weekend on Nov. 18 - 20 at Camp Whispering Pines. Time to register for Older Girl Weekend at Camp Marydale and Baton Rouge Christmas Parade

December will be here before you know it!  Come enjoy what Camp Marydale has to offer during our fun-filled older girl campout, Dec. 2 - 4. Bring a friend and have fun doing activities such as canoeing, challenge course, outdoor cooking, letterboxing, jewelry making, and more! Join us in the 61th Annual Kiwanis Downtown Baton Rouge Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 10. Let's show our Girl Scout pride and celebrate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts by walking the parade route together (approximately one mile). There will be a mandatory leader/parent meeting scheduled for Monday night at 7 p.m,. November 28, place TBA. Click here for additional information.

100th Anniversary Art Contest

 

Girl Scouts Louisiana East, in partnership with the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, is holding a 100th Anniversary Art Contest for Girl Scouts, ages 5 to 17. Share artistically what it means to be a Girl Scout today, and/or reflecting 100 years of Girl Scouting, and your artwork could be exhibited at the Ogden Museum on January 5, 2012!

 

Winners will be chosen in three categories: ages 5-8, 9-12, and 13-17. From these, one overall "best of show" will be selected. The winners will be chosen by a panel of artists, educators, and others. All artwork must adhere to the guidelines. Click here for entry requirements and entry form!

Calling all Girl Scout Alumnae!

Cookie News 

A big thank you to the troops who participated in the Fall Product Sale! You will be notified when the nuts and candy items are available for delivery.

 

The Service Unit Cookie Manager Training is Saturday, November 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Community Antioch Baptist Church,

10860 Hwy 3125, Gramercy. Registration deadline is November 9.

 

Smart Cookie UJuniors and Cadettes, become a "smart cookie" and learn financial literacy through a fun and interactive session on Saturday, January 7 at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. Participants will earn some of Girl Scouts' NEW Financial Literacy and Cookie Business Badges. You'll have the opportunity to work one-on-one with successful marketers, as you enhance your business and financial knowledge while boosting your self esteem and leadership skills. Scouting for Supper at Applebee's, Nov. 15

applebeesOn Tuesday, November 15, from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m, encourage your co-workers, family, and friends to join you for lunch and/or dinner at one of the many Applebee's locations participating and 20 percent of the total bill will be donated to our council. Click here for the required flyer.

 Meet Santa at our Fall Craft Fair, Nov. 26!

Girl Scouts Louisiana East is holding its first Fall Craft Fair at the council headquarters, 841 S. Clearview Pkwy. Jefferson, Saturday, November 26, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. With nearly 50 vendors, this is sure to be a great event.

 

Sip and Paint will be there helping you paint masterpieces. DJ Vince will be around for the second half of the day. You will be able to take pictures with Santa from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., have your face painted, eat a funnel cake, and so much more. Sew 2 grow, My Fleur De Tee, LLC, Monzon's New Orleans Charms and Jewelry, Ladybug Creations,  JBJ Creations, LLC, Cake Face Soaps, Bottle Cap Jewelry, Yum Designs, Designs by Jenn, H Hair Pretties, Eat My Cake, Purpleberry Bowtique, Lucky Nola, Craf-D Lady, Scentsy, and Pampered Chef are just a few of the vendors that are participating. So come on out and pass a good time!

Champagne, S'mores & All that Jazz

Let the party begin! Join us on Saturday, January 14, 2012, to kick-off Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary year with Champagne, S'mores & All That Jazz at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capital Center. You won't want to miss this exciting night of fabulous food, cocktails, and dancing to the jazz of The Andy Pizzo Project. Louisiana Nursery Nov. 17-18 purchases benefit Girl Scouts

 

On Thursday, November 17, from 4 - 8 p.m. and on Friday, November 18 from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., make plans to stop by one of four locations of Louisiana Nursery (12289 Florida Blvd., 13121 Coursey Blvd., 8680 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge; 39245 Hwy 42, Prairieville), and purchase your Christmas trees, wreaths, bulbs, plants, home decor, and so much more. Twenty percent of all sales will be donated to our council. Items needed for Girl Scouts 100th anniversary display

Girl Scouts Louisiana East is currently seeking vintage Girl Scout photographs, uniforms, newsworthy items and any other such memorabilia to be displayed at the 100th anniversary Centennial Extravaganza to take place at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales on Saturday, March 17, 2012. All items, properly marked with contact information, will be returned after the event. If you have any such items, or know others who might, please contact Kevin Shipp at 504-355-5888 or kshipp@gsle.org.  Troops and volunteers who can assist in presenting the 100 years of Girl Scouts Living Museum at the event should also contact Kevin.

 

Volunteers needed, Teddy Bear house tickets available

Teddy Bear House 

With over 10,000 teddy bears on display, and 100 percent of all pre-sale tickets benefiting Girl Scouts, the Teddy Bear House in New Orleans is the perfect place for your troop to celebrate Christmas! Located at 1525 Duffosat St. in New Orleans (directly behind the Latter Library on St. Charles Ave.), the Teddy Bear House will be open for one-hour tours. Tours Dates and Times: Sunday, Dec. 11 (1-8 p.m.), Monday, Dec. 12 (11 a.m.-6 p.m.), Tuesday, Dec. 13 (11 a.m.-6 p.m.), Wednesday, Dec. 14 (11 a.m.-2 p.m.), Thursday, Dec. 15 (11 a.m.-6 p.m.), Friday, Dec. 16 (11 a.m.-8 p.m.), Saturday, Dec. 17 (11 a.m.-6 p.m.), Sunday, Dec. 18 (1-6 p.m.) 


Tickets can be purchased directly from the New Orleans Shop and Reception or by calling
Carrie Thomas at 504-733-8220, ext. 2245. The cost is $10 for adults and $8 for children. Children three and under are free. Groups of 15 or more: $8 for adults and $5 for children. Pre-sale tickets are encouraged. Troops, families, and individuals may attend any date, and dates do not have to be selected in advance.

 

We are looking for 15 volunteers, adults or older girl troops, to conduct tours of the house on Saturday, December 17 and Sunday, December 18. Tour guides should arrive at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday and 12:15 p.m. on Sunday and volunteers can sign up for 3 hour time slots. Please contact Carrie if interested in this community service/volunteer opportunity.
