National Council Session 2014

53rd Convention

 

 

 

Dates: October 16-19, 2014 (Salt Lake City, Utah)

 

Girls currently in 9th-11th grade and adults apply to be a National Delegate today! The deadline for submission is December 16, 2013.

Every three years, Girl Scouts gather together at the National Council Session to reinvigorate our Movement and celebrate our accomplishments. We will engage in important strategic conversations about the future and provide exciting educational opportunities for adults and girls.

Architecture Everywhere: Girl Scouts in Georgetown Day at Tudor Place

Girl Scouts explore architectural styles from around the world while touring Tudor Place and the Georgetown neighborhood. After the tour, Girl Scouts design their own building and landscape

Mia Saunders School of Ballet Presents The Nutcracker

 

Who: Girl Scouts of All Ages

 

When: Saturday December 14th and Sunday December 15th, 2013 at 3pm

 

Where: Centreville High School Theatre, 6001 Union Mill Road, Clifton, VA 20124

 

Mia Saunders School of Ballet presents two performances of The Nutcracker. Earn your Nutcracker Patch and help others!  All proceeds go to Centreville High School Drama Boosters for student scholarships adn Fisher House Foundation 501(c)(3); an organization that helps to support our military troop.  The Girl Scouts are invited to a *pre-performance interview with Clara, The Prince, and The Sugar Plum Fairy and will receive a candy cane. (*Must register ahead.)  The Nutcracker is performed by dancers ages 5-18 and many of them are Girl Scouts.

Sesame Street Live "Make a New Friend" at the Patriot Center

Elmo, Grover, Abby Cadabby, and their Sesame Street Friends welcome Chamki, Grover's friend from India to Sesame Street. Together, they explore the universal fun of friendship and celebrate cultural similarities, from singing and dancing, to sharing cookies!

The Magic of Spying: Tradecraft Trickery

In the real-life world of espionage, spies often call upon the art of magic and illusion to distract the enemy, make evidence disappear, and escape unnoticed.  Join professional magician, Peter Wood, as he demonstrates the art of misdirection, sleight of hand, and other illusions used by skilled spies. This one of a kind performance, custom designed for the Spy Museum, is guaranteed to fascinate children and adults alike.

Are you a Storyteller? With the Smithsonian National Museum of American History

  Little Golden Books FREE Exhibition

 

Who: Girl Scouts of All Ages

 

When: June 28, 2013 - January 5, 2014

 

Where: National Museum of American History Second floor east

 

Little Golden Books transformed children's reading habits in the early 20th century. Prior to World War II, large-format, classic story books for children were prohibitively expensive and available to a privileged few. Little Golden Books offered new ideas and modern stories in an affordable format. The exhibit features a sampling of artist's proofs from several early Little Golden Books.

Preparing for a Ball at Gadsby's Tavern Museum

 

Who: Girl Scout Daisys, Brownies and Juniors

Balls were a girl's favorite thing to do in the 18th century. Explore the tavern where famous balls like George Washington's Birthnight Ball were held and practice the tasks involved in preparing for a ball. Includes an
18th century dance lesson and a craft to take home! Hour program begins at 10:30 a.m. with a new group starting every 45 minutes; last program begins at 3:15 p.m.

In Faberge's Workshop at Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens 

Who: Program is appropriate for girls ages 6-12. 

  

When: Tuesday-Saturdays and select Sundays, year-round, 10 am-12 pm or 2:30-3:30 pm.  Please schedule in advance.

Visit Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens to work on your Girl Scout Junior Jeweler Badge through In Faberg�'s Workshop. Explore sumptuous jewelry and fanciful objects including those created by imperial Russia's legendary jeweler, Peter Carl Faberg�. Then create a Faberg�-style gold box to hold your personal jewelry collections.  Completes 3 of the 5 steps required to earn the Girl Scout Junior Jeweler Badge.

 

Fee: $8 per Girl Scout, 3 chaperones free, $15 additional adults.

Each year Leadership Greater Washington selects proven or aspiring youth leaders from diverse backgrounds and provides them with the opportunity to learn from some of the area's most important decision makers to study various topics such as diversity, the arts, health, public service and community service. YLGW is open to public, private and charter school students across the region and engages the young leaders in professional skill-building activities so the participants walk away with the resources needed to be more effective at school, at home and within their community.

What's a Dine-Around? Dine-Arounds are informal dinners, brunches, teas or other events that are hosted by Women's Advisory Board members at their homes or businesses.  They are a unique chance to gain insight from successful women and will prove to be an amazing networking session. Please note there is no cost to attend a Dine-Around.
