We've changed our name to Troop Edition, (formerly E-edition) and expanded  distribution to include our Girl Scout Troop Leaders. This weekly newsletter will continue to inform you of the many exciting programs and events offered throughout the Council. We hope you enjoy receiving Troop Edition. Past issues are available on our Council's website

Troop Edition includes many opportunities offered by outside vendors. The Council has not inspected these programs or vendors, and there are no Council representatives at these events.
 

 

DC Step Show Team Registration Is Now Open!

 

 

Who: All Girl Scouts
When: Saturday, February 22, 2014, 11am - 3pm
  Where: Trinity Washington University, Washington, DC  

If your troop is interested in showing off its stepping skills, make sure to sign up to perform in the Council's DC Step Showcase. All of the members of your team must be registered members of GSCNC, and routines should be appropriate for a family event. This community event is open to current Girl Scouts and friends and family.

My Family Story with the DAR Museum

 

Who: Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors

 

When: November - May, select Saturdays and Weekdays

Where: DAR Museum

Explore your family story by researching your name and learning about youe family traditions.  Share your story by making a family tree and crest and through storytelling.  Fulfills badge requirements for new My Family Story Girl Scout Brownie program and 3 requirements for old "My Heritage" Girl Scout Junior Program.  5 girls minimum - 15 girls maximum.

 

Fees: $10 Includes supplies, DAR Museum patches, and Program badge

Nutcracker and Mini-Nut Meet and Greet by the Maryland Youth Ballet

 

Who:  Girl Scouts of all ages

 

When:  The Nutcracker December 23rd and 27th at 1pm

This holiday season, join MYB for a performance of The Nutcracker or The Mini-Nut and stay after to participate in a meet & greet with the dancers. Following the performance, Girl Scouts are invited to talk with the dancers, take pictures and work towards earning their Nutcracker Patch.

Join the Metropolitan Ballet Theatre at its performances of The Nutcracker. Enjoy the full-length, traditional staging of this family holiday classic and stay after the performances to meet the dancers, see what goes on behind the curtain, and learn all you need to know to earn your Nutcracker Patch. Great for all levels!

 

Fees: Special group rates available. Post-performance "Patch chat" is free.

Russian Winter Festival with Hillwood Estate Museum & Gardens

Join us as we take inspiration from Russian celebrations of the festive winter season.  Meet Grandfather Frost, Russia's Santa Claus, and his granddaughter, the Snow Maiden.  Create and wear your own kokoshnik (lady's headdress) or Russian gentleman's winter hat.  Enjoy lively music and listen to enchanting winter tales from Russia

Volunteer at the Environmental Leadership Institute for Council Hours

 

Who: Girl Scout Seniors and Girl Scout Ambassadors

 

Where: Camp Potomac Woods, Lucketts, VA

 

When: Saturday, October 26th, 2013; 8:00 am-5:30pm

 

What: In partnership with Booz Allen Hamilton and the US Forest Service, GSCNC is hosting the fourth annual Environmental Leadership Institute!  Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors are needed to help with serving lunch, general logistics, check-in, etc. Lunch will be provided to volunteers.

Chocolate and Tea Tasting for Girl Scouts at Tudor Place Historic House and Garden

  

Who: Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors

Sample 18th century period teas and chocolates at a festive holiday tea! Costumed interpreters lead participants in an informative and engaging presentation on the history of tea and chocolate. After the tea, take a tour of the historic mansion festively decorated for the holidays. This program has been created for Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors.

Cool Spaces for Creative Girls at the Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

 

Who: Girl Scout Teens

 

Where: Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (contingent upon the federal government reopening)

What: The ARTLAB+ program is a free afterschool program where teens can socialize with friends; explore digital media and technical tools; and take workshops to develop their interests and skills. Mentors encourage teens to explore their own interests, create their own learning trajectories, and foster their own values. ARTLAB+ strives to be a radically inclusive space, where teens can learn from each other's differences in a welcoming and safe environment. Girl Scout destinations are travel experiences that range from two days to three weeks for Cadettes and older, can whisk you to the far corners of the world where you will meet remarkable girls, develop leadership skills, gain confidence, and enjoy valuable learning opportunities to take action.

Boo Law Girl Scout Scholarship at Montgomery College

 

Who: Girl Scouts/Former Girl Scouts attending Montgomery College

 

When: Deadline to apply for Spring Semester is January 14, 2014

 

Where: Montgomery College in Rockville, MD

 

What: Dedicated Girl Scout volunteer, Boo Law, established the Boo Law Girl Scout Scholarship at Montgomery College.

 

 

The scholarship is available to a Girl Scout or former Girl Scout who is a US citizen, has been an active Girl Scout for at least 5 years, demonstrates financial need, in academic good standing, and currently lives in Montgomery County or was a resident of the county during the time she was a Girl Scout.

STEM Career and College Conference with the Tiger Woods Foundation

 

Who: Girl Scouts 7th-12th Grade

Interested in STEM? Join the Tiger Woods Foundation at our STEM Career Conference and learn more about various industries in these fields and discover possible career paths! The TWF Career and College Conference focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) will be a half-day of hands-on specialized instruction, offering a range of career and college preparation workshops for middle and high school students, their parents and educators.

Gold Award? If so, we'd love to have you join us for one of our Dine-Arounds this season. 
 
What's a Dine-Around? Dine-Arounds are informal dinners, brunches, teas or other events that are hosted by Women's Advisory Board members at their homes or businesses.  They are a unique chance to gain insight from successful women and will prove to be an amazing networking session.
Please note there is no cost to attend a Dine-Around.
