Designed to inspire teen girls to recognize their own abilities, become active in their schools and in their communities. The leadership conference will include interesting activities, exciting workshops, and college preparation. Influential guest speakers such as Catherine Hogan, Public Affairs and Government Relations lobbyist for Verizon; Yvette Alexander, DC City Council; and Robert Sims, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Washington Gas.

Astronomy Festival on the National Mall
Who: Girl Scouts of all ages
When: Friday June 14, 2013 from 5 - 11 pm, (rain/cloud date: June 15th)
Where: Washington Monument NE, 15th Street and Constitution Ave.
The annual Astronomy Festival on the National Mall, sponsored by Hofstra University, takes place from 5 to 11 pm. The astronomical extravaganza will feature telescopic viewing, exhibits, hands-on activities, a multimedia presentation, and a chance to mingle with real astronomers. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held on Saturday, June 15th.
Nearby parking is available at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center building for $13.00 from 5 pm until 1 am.

Girl Scout Night at the Washington Mystics

Want to explore STEM careers?
Who: Girl Scout Cadette troops
Requirements for participation: 10-15 students within the target age range (grades 5-8)
Change the Equation, a STEM-focused nonprofit in Washington, D.C., has created the online learning game iOnFuture, which aims to expose students to the world of STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
Change the Equation would like to make sure that the game is making the impact it promises to within its target age group, fifth- to eighth-graders. Change the Equation is looking for troops to see to what extent the games influence girls' opinions on STEM careers. Interested troops would be introduced to the game suite and play at least once over a period of three weeks, and take pre- and post-tests. For participating, groups will receive one $50 Amazon gift card upon completion. Troops should have at least 10 to 15 students within the target age range (grades 5-8) who can participate.

C & O Historic Park Training
Who: Any adult Girl Scout volunteer
When: August 24, 2013, 9:30-2:30
Where: Riley's Lockhouse Poolesville, MD
Want to give tours at the Riley Lockhouse? Come churn butter, do home crafts, make ice cream or lemonade 1870 style! After a troop leader or another troop adult takes the C+O Canal National Historical Park training the troop can choose a date when they and most of the girls can come from 12:30-4:30 on a Saturday or Sunday during the spring or fall and have fun at the Lockhouse.
